Job Description: Mechanic at Desert Lumber and Building Materials
Founded in 1989, Desert Lumber and Building Materials supplies customers with specialty building materials across multiple locations in Las Vegas, NV. Our operations include two lumber yards, floor and roof truss manufacturing, Desert Fasteners, and Desert Window Systems.
The Mechanic will be responsible for conducting maintenance, as well as minor and major repairs to equipment, including forklifts and trucks. The candidate must possess the skills and ability to dismantle engines and perform appropriate repairs.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a clean and safe work area and ensure all equipment is in good working condition.
- Follow all instructions and guidelines provided by the supervisor.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and basic repairs as directed.
- Repair equipment following manufacturer’s specifications and lockout/tag out procedures.
- Keep detailed and organized records of all maintenance activities.
- Assist in building maintenance projects, such as building racks, repairing racking, wiring, plumbing, carpentry, or running errands.
- Help keep the shop clean and organized.
- Maintain tools and equipment safely, inspecting daily.
- Perform extensive repairs as directed, ensuring compliance with manufacturer’s specifications and safety standards.
- Ensure repairs comply with safety, DOT, and other regulatory procedures.
- Monitor and update warehouse equipment parts inventory.
- Train colleagues in warehouse equipment repair.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned and adhere to company policies and safety standards.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Additional training or courses in related fields may be necessary.
- Less than 1 year of experience in warehouse maintenance and vehicle repair required.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Basic knowledge of electronics, hydraulics, brakes, welding, and general maintenance required; advanced knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to operate pallet jacks, forklifts, and rolling stock.
Licenses and Certifications
- Class A CDL License required upon hire.
- Forklift Certification required upon hire.
