Somervell County Road & Bridge Maintenance is seeking a highly skilled, dependable, and detail-oriented mechanic to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical expertise, coupled with a strong understanding of mechanical systems and tools. A commitment to excellence in customer service, alongside the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues, is essential. This position may require flexibility, including occasional after-hours or weekend availability for emergency repairs. Additionally, the mechanic may be called upon to collaborate with the Road Crew as needed to ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs the service, maintenance, and repair of all county equipment, vehicles, and golf carts
  • Diagnoses and repairs automotive, construction, and maintenance equipment mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic system problems and the cause for the malfunctions
  • Welds, brazes, solders, fabricates, modifies, repairs, and assembles parts and equipment for county automotive, heavy, and light equipment, body and chassis parts.
  • Maintains and repairs shop equipment. Operates and uses various mechanical equipment. Completes basic shop tasks
  • Operates a torch and mig welder to cut steel, stainless steel, and aluminum,
  • Follows all health and safety laws and guidelines, as well as common-sense safety procedures.
  • Ensures the shop is clean, floors are swept and tools are put away daily
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Possess a valid TX Driver’s License
  • Three (3) years of journeyman level experience performing minor and major equipment repair duties including experience in the maintenance of both diesel and gas powered equipment
  • Refrigerant Transition & Recovery certification from an accredited school
  • Two years of verifiable general maintenance experience
  • Possession of a valid CDL Class B minimum Texas Driver’s license
  • Coordinated, dexterous, attention to detail and computer literate
  • Proven mechanical acuity and basic math skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Shop and outdoor environment
  • Working alone
  • Exposure to grease, dust and dirt
  • May be exposed to electrical hazards.

PHYSICAL CONDITIONS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical conditions necessary for standing for prolonged periods of time, lifting and carrying moderate to heavy materials and equipment; climbing or stooping during assigned activities.
