Base pay range

$65,000.00/yr - $77,000.00/yr

Description: The School Social Worker at North Cook Young Adult Academy (NCYAA), a Regional Safe School serving middle and high school students in an alternative setting, provides case management, counseling, and social-emotional support to students navigating academic, behavioral, and transitional challenges. The Social Worker plays a critical role in fostering students’ well-being, designing systems of support, and facilitating individual and group interventions aligned to students’ evolving needs. Supervisor: Principal - NYCAA

Work Schedule: 185 days

FLSA status: Exempt

Retirement: TRS (With PEL) IMRF (Without PEL)

Essential Duties

Case Management and Student Support:

  • Provide comprehensive case management for an assigned caseload of students, including the development of individual support plans.
  • Support students’ emotional transitions from home school districts, therapeutic settings, or other alternative placements into NCYAA.
  • Conduct intake assessments and participate in re-entry and transition planning.
  • Maintain regular communication with families, home schools, and partner agencies as appropriate.

Assessment And Goal Setting

  • Administer baseline and periodic SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) assessments to evaluate student needs.
  • Collaborate with students, staff, and families to set individualized, measurable social-emotional goals.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions as needed, documenting updates in student records.

Therapeutic Intervention And Support Systems

  • Design and lead structured, data-informed student support groups that reflect the changing needs of the student population (e.g., trauma, anger management, grief, self-regulation, peer relationships).
  • Develop and maintain systems for delivering tiered social-emotional interventions within the school’s MTSS framework.
  • Provide direct counseling services (individual and group) in response to student-specific needs, behavioral incidents, or crisis events.

Collaboration And Schoolwide Support

  • Collaborate with teachers, interventionists, administrators, and outside providers to ensure wraparound services and alignment of supports.
  • Contribute to positive behavioral intervention systems and school climate initiatives.
  • Participate actively in student support team meetings and other multidisciplinary planning structures.
  • Serve as a liaison between school, family, and community to connect students with external resources when needed.

Documentation And Compliance

  • Maintain accurate and timely records in accordance with district policy, state law, and federal guidelines.
  • Document interventions, progress monitoring, parent communication, and service delivery logs.
  • Support development and monitoring of student behavior plans, safety plans, and re-entry plans.
