The Office of Domestic Violence (ODV) and Domestic Violence Services (DVS) provide emergency shelter and support services to survivors of domestic violence and their families. DVS oversees a network of more than 55 emergency domestic violence shelters, a 24-hour domestic violence hotline, and related programs including No Violence Again (NoVA), Domestic Violence Liaison Unit (DVLU), Anti-Domestic Violence Eligibility Needs Team (ADVENT), and Teen Relationship Abuse Prevention Program (RAPP). ODV supports prevention and intervention services, crisis counseling, advocacy, and legal services for affected families and individuals.

ODV and DVS administer a range of programs and partnerships with community organizations to deliver counseling, legal services, financial development, and job readiness for domestic violence survivors.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an assessment/screening to determine if the client is a victim of domestic violence and the level of services required.
  • Inform referred clients about domestic violence and options for protection, services, and other supports.
  • Inform referred clients about rights and responsibilities with respect to waivers of public assistance program requirements.
  • Facilitate emergency safety planning for clients in a crisis situation, as necessary.
  • Provide on-site direct counseling services to clients and formulate an evaluation and treatment plan.
  • Make appropriate referrals to social/other services and follow up to ensure receipt of services and collaboration on treatment plans.
  • Provide advocacy services, as required.
  • Maintain case records for each client on caseload with required information and maintain other statistical and written records as required.
  • Provide coverage at other locations as needed.

$64,188 – $79,357

Hours/Schedule

Monday–Friday; Saturday and Sunday shifts available. 9 AM–5 PM or 12–8 PM as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work.

License Requirements

You must have a valid Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license issued by the New York State Education Department within one year of appointment. This license must be presented at the time of appointment or when received, and maintained for the duration of employment. If the license is not obtained within one year, the probationary period will be extended for six months; if not obtained by 18 months, employment may be terminated.

Special Note

Section 424-a of the New York Social Services Law requires inquiry into whether a candidate with child-care responsibilities has been the subject of a child abuse and maltreatment report; the agency may assign candidates with such a report to roles without child-care responsibilities.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. Some city employees may reside in nearby counties if eligible; discuss with the agency at interview.
