Work Assignment Details

Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services is recruiting for an Ongoing Child Protective Services (CPS) Worker in the Child and Youth - Family Services Division. The division serves individuals and families by providing quality and professional services, prioritizing family strengths, collaboration, confidentiality, and lawful intervention when needed.

As an Ongoing CPS Worker, you will help ensure safety, permanency, and well-being of children and families in Wisconsin, in accordance with Chapter 48 of the Wisconsin Statutes and state regulations. Your responsibilities include:

  • Providing support to children living with birth parents, relatives, or temporary caregivers and strengthening family bonds.
  • Collaborating with families to develop and implement case and permanency plans and lead family team meetings.
  • Working within a collaborative team to manage cases across the Child Welfare Services continuum.
  • Engaging with families who seek guidance to prevent abuse and neglect and offering practical solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Family Engagement & Assessment: Build connections and conduct assessments to understand family needs.
  • Case Management & Service Coordination: Coordinate services tailored to each family’s requirements.
  • Safety Assessment & Planning: Ensure the safety and well-being of children.
  • Parenting Education: Educate and empower parents.
  • Permanency Planning: Contribute to long-term stability and permanent solutions.
  • Record Management: Maintain accurate records.
  • Coordinating & Planning Placements: Guide in-home and out-of-home placement processes.
  • Crisis Intervention: Respond swiftly to crises to protect families and children.
  • Support & Intervention: Provide direct support and interventions.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with community providers to improve outcomes.

Work Schedule

40 hours a week, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with flexibility to work evenings as needed. Remote work may be available up to 50% of a pay period after certain requirements are met.

Work Requirements

Ongoing CPS Workers meet with families in offices, homes, schools, and community locations. They may transport themselves and sometimes clients to appointments, with daily driving expectations. They must respond to crises and maintain flexible schedules, communicate via email, phone, and in person, and document work electronically.

Classification & Minimum Training & Experience

Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, nursing, criminal justice, or related field; two years of related work experience; master’s degree or certification substitutions as described; and a valid driver’s license.
