Overview

We are seeking a qualified Licensed Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW) to provide inpatient coverage for day shift at Tuscon VAMC. You will deliver high-impact care to Veterans, ensuring timely assessment and intervention in a fast-paced environment.

Location: Tuscon, AZ

Duration: 1 year contract, possibility to extend for total of 5 years

Shift: M-F 7:30-4pm or 8am-4:30pm, no OT

Base pay range

$40.00/hr - $46.00/hr

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Assessment & Crisis Response
    • Perform suicide risk, mental health, and crisis assessments and interventions.
    • Develop and implement care plans that address social determinants of health.
    • Document safety plans and interventions in electronic medical records.
  • Care Coordination & Case Management
    • Manage post-discharge case assignments and assist with discharge planning for Veterans, including referrals to rehabilitation, home health, long-term care, and palliative services.
    • Educate patients and families on care plans and advance directives to ensure understanding and compliance.
    • Coordinate inpatient psychiatric petitions and collaborate with Adult Protective Services on cases involving abuse, neglect, or housing instability.
  • Team-Based Collaboration
    • Communicate critical patient information to interdisciplinary care teams.
    • Plan and facilitate family and interdisciplinary team meetings, including goals-of-care discussions.

Required Skills

  • Active LMSW license.
  • Minimum of two years of recent experience in an inpatient social work setting.
  • Background in mental health, substance abuse, and housing instability.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal and assessment skills, especially in acute/emergent situations.
  • Familiarity with Tucson-area community resources is preferred.

Desired Skills

  • Extensive experience in crisis intervention and mental health/substance abuse.
  • Proficiency in discharge planning and linking Veterans to support services.
  • Skilled in interdisciplinary communication and patient advocacy.
  • High level of competence in maintaining patient privacy and EMR documentation protocols.
