Support Technician IT Department

VIN is looking for a full-time experienced IT Support Technician for our IT department. The Support Technician helps to keep VINs technology running by providing support to staff, members, and other department members on matters related to user issues, hardware, software, and core IT systems. Technical support includes various daily support tasks, along with managing the day-to-day flow of open support requests and functionality of workstations and peripherals, software installations, hardware diagnoses, setting up new equipment, and documenting processes related to known fixes all be combining technical knowledge and user-friendly communications.


Position could be considered a Senior level position, depending on experience.

Required Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

  1. Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: AA or AS Degree in Computer Science or related field
  2. Minimum experience required: Minimal 1 year experience tech support and customer service
  3. Skills required:
  • Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to relevant detail
  • Critical thinking skills as applied to applicable goals
  • Ability to self-start, manage time, and meet deadlines
  • Working relevant knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Acrobat products
  • Ability to learn other computer software as needed, as well as learn basic HTML coding skills relevant to specific tasks
  • Effective ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate professional attitude
  • Basic math: addition, subtraction, multiplication, percentages and basic algebra
  • Excellent computer hardware skills, including PC and peripheral troubleshooting and repair
  • Excellent software skills, including Windows operating systems, Networking, and Microsoft Office products

What youll be doing:

  • Using proper discretion and independent judgment, effectively and efficiently respond to technical support requests, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues across desktops, laptops, and mobile devices, both in person and utilizing various company modalities including ticketing system, emails, telephone, screen-sharing, remote desktop tools, and internal communication systems (e.g., Slack).
  • Timely escalate unresolved support matters to more senior staff and professionally work with vendors to resolve issues.
  • Communicate verbally as needed to successfully provide required training on company assets and resources, including internal systems, VPN access, emails, software and hardware configurations.
  • Effectively assist with on/off boarding of resources and users.
  • Maintain standards for workstation and peripheral configurations; assist with new setups, testing, repair, and scheduled maintenance; and handle system updates, software installations, patching, and management of user accounts.
  • Maintain inventory of IT hardware and software, to include shipping/receiving, and attend to proper and timely asset tagging.
  • Support network connectivity, both at workstation level and system wide, including participation in on-call rotations to provide 24/7/265 support of IT infrastructure and proper monitoring of alerts for hardware, software, backups, and anti-virus.
  • Maintain and update documentation for configurations, setups, known fixes, and FAQs.
  • Maintain and timely post informative daily logs of job activities.
  • Participate, both in person and using relevant technological modalities, in relevant departmental and company meetings, and effectively collaborate with others to review and analyze hardware and software needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Location for this position is onsite at the VIN offices in Davis, CA.
    • Telecommuting or any other exceptions to working hours or location require approval
