Red Cat is seeking a full-time Junior IT Specialist to support and grow internal IT capabilities. You will join a fast-paced team creating world-class unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for defense, public safety, and government sectors.
Position Summary
This is an onsite position at Red Cat’s Teal Drones facility in South Salt Lake, Utah. Travel is not anticipated at this time, but the role may evolve to include travel to California or Georgia. The Junior IT Specialist will assist in maintaining Red Cat’s IT infrastructure—ensuring performance, security, and user support. This hands-on role includes technical troubleshooting, onboarding/offboarding, system upkeep, and collaboration with senior IT staff to improve processes and maintain compliance. This role will assist Teal Drones, Red Cat, FlightWave, and other business divisions as needed.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Technical Support
- First-level end-user support for hardware, software, and networking
- Respond to helpdesk tickets in a timely manner, document resolutions, and escalate complex issues as needed
- Troubleshoot desktop, laptop, peripheral, and printer issues for local and remote users
- User Onboarding/Offboarding
- Setup of accounts, permissions, and hardware/software for new hires
- Conduct IT orientation sessions
- Communicate logistical needs to the IT Director to ensure on-time delivery of equipment
- System Maintenance
- Assist Systems Administrators with routine updates, backups, and patches to workstations
- User account and access management
- Maintain asset inventory and ensure system compliance with internal configuration standards
- Infrastructure Support
- Desktop, server, and network device support
- Exposure to virtualization (VMware, Proxmox)
- Security
- Support compliance and audit readiness
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain up-to-date technical documentation for internal procedures and troubleshooting guides
- Contribute to internal knowledgebase articles for common support scenarios
- Participate in internal IT meetings and project planning sessions as a supporting team member
- Project Assistance
- Collaborate on system upgrades and deployments
- Training and Development
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends
- Participate in training programs to improve technical skills and knowledge
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in IT or 5 years relevant experience
- Proficient with Windows operating system at an administrative level, including user profile management, system updates, configuration, and debugging of applications
- Introduced to Ubuntu Linux desktop systems
- Familiarity with user creation procedures within a medium size business
- Experience with identity and access management in Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and/or Active Directory environments
- Ability to configure and support wired and wireless networks, including basic understanding of VLAN concepts
- Previous use and configuration of VPN clients
- Use of automation scripting with PowerShell or Python
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Additional Desired Qualifications
- Practical exposure to frameworks like CMMC, HIPAA, PCI
- Email administration (Microsoft 365)
- Experience with Fortinet, Ubiquiti, SonicWall, PFsense
- Familiarity with SaltStack, Git, or CI/CD tools
- Prior work in aerospace, manufacturing, software, or engineering industries

- Capability to endure prolonged periods of sitting in office settings while working on computers and other equipment
