This position assists with the development and maintenance of activities in IT areas such as network communications, systems administration, or systems development. The incumbent uses knowledge of LAN/WAN, operating systems, database, or application development languages to help design, deploy, and maintain IT systems. This position works under the guidance of senior engineers and is not responsible for providing patient care.
Responsibilities
- Checks system logs for errors.
- Starts jobs and monitors logs to ensure successful completion.
- Deploys and maintains IT systems.
- Develops systems using applicable IT languages.
- Replaces IT hardware in university buildings and data centers.
- Performs physical inventory of IT systems and updates documentation.
- Answers main phone line and routes calls as needed.
- Monitors system health.
- Processes requests within established timeframes.
- Routes requests to appropriate resources.
- Updates request ticket status upon task completion.
- Notifies engineers of detected problems.
- Performs tasks necessary for system operations.
- Maintains relevant IT documentation.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to read and understand technical manuals and schematics.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, with ability to work in a team.
- Proficient in problem solving.
- Knowledge in TCP/IP, MS SMS, MS SharePoint, Active Directory, network security, server OS, programming languages, database, etc.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment.
- Ability to climb a stepladder.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an applicable, accredited program.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, and working in narrow spaces.
- Subject to hazards like ladder climbing.
Physical Requirements
Carrying, climbing, color determination, crawling, lifting, manual dexterity, reaching, sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, and other physical activities.
