Job Summary
The position supports a range of essential security functions, including monitoring, incident response, system patching, user education, and program support. Also ensures systems are properly patched and protected, while also helping to drive employee engagement through security awareness initiatives. Must abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely.
Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude, but not limited to, the following:
Security Monitoring & Incident Response
- Monitors and analyzes security alerts and events from a variety of tools (e.g., endpoint detection, email security platforms, security information, service tickets and event management systems).
- Performs triage and initial analysis of suspicious activities, such as phishing emails or potential malware threats.
- Responds to user-reported incidents and escalate when necessary.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of incident response playbooks and standard procedures.
System and Patch Management
- Tracks and reports status of system patching and updates.
- Helps identify vulnerable or unpatched systems and coordinate with IT teams to remediate risks.
- Contributes to maintaining system health and minimizing exposure to known threats.
Security Awareness & User Engagement
- Assists in administering security awareness training and phishing simulations.
- Monitors employee participation and performance in training exercises.
- Suggests and implements creative ways to boost user engagement with security education (e.g., educational videos, gamification, or incentives).
- Gains hands-on experience with core cybersecurity tools and platforms (e.g., endpoint detection, threat monitoring, multi-factor authentication, email filtering, and identity protection).
- Collaborates with system administrators to fine-tune and optimize tool configurations.
- Stays updated on product capabilities and emerging features to support informed decision-making.
Security Program Support
- Contributes to maintaining security documentation, including compliance with frameworks such as CIS Controls or NIST guidelines.
- Provides recommendations for process or configuration improvements based on best practices and internal evaluations.
- Participates in broader security initiatives such as tool evaluations or risk assessments.
Professional Development
- Participates in webinars, training sessions, and security meetups to stay informed about the latest cybersecurity trends and technologies.
- Works alongside senior staff to gradually assume more complex responsibilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in IT, Computer Science, or related technical discipline; and
- 3 years of hands-on professional experience in IT field; or
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates and Licenses:
- Valid NE driver’s license
- Recognized industry certification(s) such as CompTIA Security+. GSEC, CEH, CISA, SSCP.
Other Qualifications:
- Strong analytical skills to foresee and identify problems, evaluate alternatives and recommend effective solutions. Ability to think critically about business processes and identify inefficiencies or areas for improvement.
- Meticulous with data, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner.
- Ability to lead discussions, influence decisions and help guide the effort through complex changes.
