For 40 years, FORMA Construction Company has been serving public agencies and private businesses across Western Washington. To expand our passion for working in local communities, we are seeking a highly motivated individual to supplement our growing Estimating & Preconstruction Department.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Is responsible for quantity take-off, bid spreadsheet setup, coordinating, and participating in subcontractor outreach, basic pricing of FORMA’s self-performed work during preconstruction and bidding. Coordinates and participates in the preparation of all estimates that are provided by the Estimating Department. Is accountable for post bid processing and archiving. Position is 75% task driven and 25% soft skills, position is equivalent to Project Manager in terms of accountability, experience, and skill.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Soft Skills -
- Estimator’s are required to have written and verbal communications skills as they represent the department and FORMA Construction in outward facing procurement and preconstruction activities.
- Approaches being a process leader within the department. A process leader is an expert in the processes and tools used to achieve department goals and tasks. Is aware of emerging technology and approaches that will keep the department and FORMA competitive in a changing industry and marketplace.
- Be familiar with the various contract delivery methods and how those methods affect estimating and fee approaches.
- Integrate into project procurement teams to provide insight and strategy to pursue and win value based selection projects of various delivery methods.
- Integrate with other estimators, PM’s and PE’s with a focus on teamwork and open communication.
- Must possess an all hands approach to estimating tasks and a willingness to perform take-off and other tasks when necessary.
Technical Skills -
- Estimators are expected to perform in both the Project Lead Estimator and Price and/or Quantity Estimator Role on between 2-3 concurrent preconstruction projects per year and as many as 3-4 project bids per month.
- Estimators are expected to learn and understand FORMA’s standard cost basis. Meaning the relationship between field and office overhead, fee vs profit, general conditions and grand total markup items.
- Approaches possessing “expert or power user” knowledge of common estimating tools: Excel, Sage, On Screen Take-off, or their equivalents. Knowledge of Revit, Navisworks, and other 3rd party BIM tools is desired.
- Basic understanding of MasterFormat and UniFormat, how they relate and how to leverage UniFormat for archiving and recall for use in conceptual/comparable cost estimates.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Construction, or similar and a minimum of 2-5 years of estimating experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Additional experience in project engineering, field supervision, or purchasing is desired. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, and trade practices. Must be able to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
