Location: New York, New York

Duration & Type: Full-Time, Monday – Friday; HYBRID

Chamberlain Advisors is conducting an executive search for a Senior Accountant for their direct client. As a key partner to the Chief Financial Officer the Senior Accountant will assist in preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit & loss, and related financial activities. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for providing accounting expertise, gathering accounting information into the accounting system, month-end close procedures, supporting leadership with audits, maintaining general ledger activity, reviewing banking transactions, and financial statement analyses and preparation. This position will perform general accounting functions and will work closely with CFO to ensure appropriate and consistent financial reporting and controls across all of the client’s operations. You must be a hands-on, roll up your sleeves type of accountant and should enjoy a fast-paced environment. This role reports to the CFO.

  • Accounting Acumen & Confidence – Must have a strong aptitude for working with numbers, combined with knowledge of GAAP accounting standards. Demonstrated understanding of the interrelationships between various account transaction types and can quickly understand, assess, and resolve a wide variety of General Ledger (GL) accounting problems. Understand how GL accounts flow into monthly financial statements and takes ownership on month-end close deliverables for the company. Support and assist the CFO and external auditors during the audit process. A solid foundation with AP/AR Reporting, Journal Entries, GL Reconciliations, State Sales Tax Filings, Payroll Accruals & Preparation, and the financial statements (Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and the Statement of Cash Flows).

Ideal Candidate Background

What You Will Be Accountable For Accomplishing

  • Review and maintain general ledger activity; reconcile general ledger accounts. Full life-cycle accounting for Accounts Payable & Account Receivable (AP/AR), Month-End Close Procedures, Posting Journal Entries, Financial Statement Analyses & Preparation, and supporting the Accounting Function with Audits.
  • Assist and support the CFO as it relates to monthly / quarterly / annual month-end close tasks.
  • Perform month-end close processes with a goal of completing close within 5–10 days.
  • Manage intercompany transactions and ensure accounts properly tie out.
  • Assist in the development of a 13-week cash flow forecasting system; monitor cash flow and line of credit activity.
  • Oversee and monitor HR-related tasks, benefits questions, and payroll processes (minimal involvement, outsourced PEO, ADP system).
  • Handle client billing requests, vendor invoicing, and A/R collections (including follow-up on overdue invoices).
  • Partner with overseas accountants and ensure timely, accurate responses to accounting questions and adjustments.
  • Serve as a point of contact for client requests, tying documentation back to purchasing orders and ensuring thorough follow-up.
  • Assist with various accounting projects for a fast-growing company such as ERP system integrations, compliance, accounting policies, audit requests, documenting procedures, internal controls, and automate manual processes where possible.
  • Provide requested documents for financial statement, internal, regulatory, or third-party audits.
  • Be a proactive problem solver and a resource to internal teams, stepping up independently to address emerging issues.
  • Work professionally and maintain emotional intelligence when interacting across departments and functions.

Technical Skills Required

  • Excel Proficiency: Advanced Excel skills required (pivot tables, data parsing, variance analysis, slicing/dicing large datasets).
  • Financial Acumen: Ability to recognize discrepancies, variances from GL, and propose solutions without constant direction.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field / equivalent experience.
  • At least 4 – 7 years of progressive financial accounting experience.
  • Knowledge and complete comprehension of full cycle accounting processes; confident with Journal Entries, GL reconciliations, State Sales Tax & Filings, and preparation of Payroll Accruals.
  • Robust understanding of financial statements, financial reporting, and financial statement preparation (P&L, B/S, Statement of Cash Flows).
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP is required; distribution, inventory, and import experience is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills with keen attention to detail; able to interpret financial data.
  • Flexibility in handling multiple tasks, prioritize meeting deadlines while delivering high-quality results.
  • Excel in a fast-paced startup environment, balancing multiple projects concurrently and independently.
  • Agile, adaptable, flexible, and thrives in a dynamic and changing culture environment.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and projects and to multi-task within restricted time constraints.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
