Teacher Qualifications
60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours from an accredited college or university, including 6 semester or 9 quarter hours in early childhood education.
OR
One year (1560 clock hours) of child development experience in nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed daycare, plus 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours of credits related to child care and/or child development from birth to age 6.
Must meet all DCFS requirements.
Must have patience, a caring attitude, and a desire to work with children.
Employees should be loving, caring, sensitive, and friendly towards children.
Must communicate effectively with children and co-workers.
Job Responsibilities
- Help children meet developmental and emotional needs.
- Plan, direct, and conduct programs that meet children's basic needs.
- Maintain staff/child ratios at all times.
- Conduct weekly observations of children.
- Check equipment daily for safety and functionality.
- Set individual goals for children.
- Teach appropriate societal behaviors.
- Complete 20 hours of in-service/online training annually.
- Demonstrate emotional maturity when working with children.
- Cooperate with program purposes and services.
- Respect children and adults.
- Display flexibility, understanding, and patience.
- Maintain good physical and mental health.
- Practice good personal hygiene.
- Engage in frequent interaction with children.
- Use listening skills, be available and responsive.
- Be sensitive to children's socioeconomic, cultural, ethnic, religious backgrounds, and individual needs.
- Apply positive discipline and guidance techniques.
- Create a comfortable, relaxed, and engaging environment.
- Be fingerprinted and cleared through background check.
- Submit 3 letters of reference.
- Have a current physical exam and T.B. test every 2 years.
- Be able to lift 40 lbs or more.
- Submit transcripts.
- Be at least 19 years old.
- Observe children diligently.
- Implement DCFS safety and health standards.
- Display monthly lesson plans in the classroom.
- Develop and carry out age-appropriate activities supporting development.
- Maintain classroom operations smoothly.
- Collaborate effectively with Teacher’s Assistant.
- Act as a role model.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences as needed.
- Report supply and equipment needs.
- Report unacceptable behavior and injuries promptly.
- Maintain daily reports and confidentiality.
- Participate in staff meetings and training.
- Perform daily cleaning duties.
- Be aware of company policies and children's food allergies.
- Sanitize toys and furniture regularly.
- Record observations.
- Know age group ratios.
- Obtain Food Handlers Certification.
- Evaluate children's progress.
