Position

Apprentice Mechanic — Full-time — Paramus, NJ

Compensation: $21.00 to $27.00 based on Experience

Responsibilities

  • Assist with Maintenance and Repairs: Support senior diesel mechanics in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, and driveline components.
  • Diesel Engines: Assist in the removal, installation, disassembly, and reconditioning of diesel engine components and systems. Preventive Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance according to manufacturer specifications to ensure vehicle reliability and longevity.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that repairs and maintenance meet or exceed industry standards. Complete test drives to verify that repaired vehicles operate correctly and safely.
  • Tool and Equipment Use: Understand the proper usage, care, and storage of shop tools and diagnostic equipment, including lockout/tagout procedures.
  • Detail-Oriented: Write thorough inspection reports and repair plans. Keep electronic maintenance logs up to date.
  • Safety and Cleanliness: Follow all workplace safety policies and procedures to maintain a clean and safe work environment.

What Sets You Apart

  • Experienced Professionals: Strong background in diesel mechanics, with experience in Cummins and Detroit engines. ASE Diesel Certification or an associate degree in diesel technology is highly valued, but not required.
  • Problem Solvers: Troubleshooting skills; ability to find and implement solutions. Computer diagnostic skills are a plus, but training is provided.
  • Team Players: Ability to work in all weather conditions, including outdoors. Willingness to work weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Experience Counts: Have the necessary toolkit to carry out maintenance duties independently. Experience in the Motor Coach Industry is preferred.
  • Safety Champion: Adhere to and champion safety standards to ensure a secure workplace for everyone.
