Job Summary
The Mechanic diagnoses and repairs diesel tractors, trailers, and other wheeled vehicles.
Job Responsibilities
- Examine and diagnose vehicle problems, perform repairs according to accepted methods.
- Discuss extensive or complex repairs with Terminal Manager or Supervisor.
- Enforce CEMEX safety policies and regulations among mechanics (e.g., lockout/tagout, hazard assessment).
- Ensure shop and repairs comply with OSHA regulations.
- Perform routine scheduled maintenance as per PM checklists.
- Plan work procedures.
- Raise vehicles using hydraulic jacks or hoists for access.
- Remove components for repair or replacement (e.g., alternators, starters, water pumps, etc.).
- Disassemble, inspect, and determine causes of failure.
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Replace and adjust headlights, install accessories, and perform welding as needed.
- Enter work orders for inventory and maintenance tracking.
- Adhere to all safety and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years related experience, training, or an equivalent combination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand, interpret, and execute instructions precisely.
- Bi-lingual Spanish is a plus.
- Recognize hazards and follow safety instructions.
- Valid Driver's License; Class A or B CDL preferred or obtainable within 180 days.
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain.
- TWIC card preferred or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions
- Sitting most of the time, with walking or standing as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, climbing.
- Occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force.
- Communication via talking and hearing.
