Production Underwriter
is primarily responsible for: Risk Evaluation:
Selection, retention, and pricing of new and existing business in accordance with the companys underwriting philosophy and guidelines. Broker Relationships:
Proactively develops and fosters positive, professional relationships with the companys agency partners to promote the companys products and services. Premium Growth:
Works closely with Field Sales Managers in plan management of brokers (e.g., generation of submissions, target quote and bind hit ratios, co-working agency business plans, and incentives). Underwriting Profit:
Collaborates with Field Sales Managers to achieve pricing and commission targets to meet profitability objectives. Key functions include but are not limited to: Selects new business and evaluates renewal accounts per company underwriting policies, authority limits, and procedures. Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy with agents, responding promptly and ethically to all requests and issues. Provides thorough education to agents regarding risk selection and pricing guidelines. Seeks new sales opportunities and follows up diligently to achieve growth objectives. Travels (live and virtual) to agencies to provide underwriting, quoting, and promotional support. Reviews claims activity, loss control surveys, and inspection reports, handling as necessary. Resolves policy audit issues. Decides on policy changes, delegating tasks to underwriting and processing assistants as appropriate. Must be a team player, exhibit expertise, and exercise good judgment consistently. Qualifications BA/BS degree from an accredited institution or equivalent. 2-3 years of experience in California workers compensation underwriting or equivalent, preferably in small business. Ability to work in a fast-paced, decision-oriented environment. Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills. Strong organizational skills and multitasking ability. Proficiency with MS Office products and automation tools. Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
