Location of Position MDH/Prevention and Health Promotion Administration, Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Baltimore, Maryland Main Purpose of Job The Maryland Department of Health (MDH)'s Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA) aims to protect, promote, and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families. The mission of the Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB) is to promote and improve the health and well-being of women, children, and families, focusing on eliminating inequities and improving outcomes in Maryland. This position will serve as the Deputy Director for the MCHB, assisting the MCHB Director with managing internal operations, personnel functions, training, workforce development initiatives, and policy development. Responsibilities include supervising approximately 90 staff members and managing a budget of approximately $160 million. The Deputy Director will also assist in program planning, implementing goals, and enhancing organizational effectiveness while addressing maternal and child health issues. This position may act for the MCHB Director in their absence and will administer maternal and child health programs while developing statewide partnerships related to public health. Minimum Qualifications The qualified candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree and six years of health or human services administrative or professional experience, including three years at a supervisory or managerial level. Notes: 1) A Master's degree will substitute for one year of general experience. 2) A Doctorate will substitute for two years of general experience. Additional experience will substitute on a year-for-year basis for the college degree. Desired or Preferred Qualifications The desired candidate should have extensive supervisory and personnel management experience, including leading teams in developing and implementing goals. Experience managing projects for high-quality outcomes and overseeing federal grants is also preferred.
