About the Department : The Finance team is an international group of financial professionals dedicated to supporting our global business, protecting company assets, and providing strategic analysis, budgeting, and reporting to support the company’s objectives. The team helps ensure the company’s long-term financial health and sustainability by managing resources, optimizing financial performance, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic insights to support decision-making across international operations. The department comprises several teams, including:

  • Accounts Payable: Manages vendor payments and employee expense reporting, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong financial controls.
  • Accounting & Financial Reporting: Maintains global financial records with precision, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, accuracy, and transparency in reporting.
  • Financial Planning & Analysis: Provides strategic insights through budgeting, forecasting, and data analysis to drive informed decision-making.

About the Role

The FP&A Senior Analyst will monitor and analyze financial performance across international locations, identify cost-saving opportunities, provide budgeting and forecasting support, and ensure compliance with local regulations while considering global economic factors. You will report to senior management on the overall financial health of international operations. During your first year, Backroads will implement new FP&A systems to support and enhance service to internal business partners.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Collaborate with business owners and analysts to develop, scrutinize, and maintain accurate line-item budgets, including revenue and expense projections by entity; use internal knowledge and external data to forecast future global budget needs; gather input from regional teams to align budgets with company goals.
  • Financial Analysis and Business Reviews: Conduct regular variance analysis, explain deviations to managers, identify areas of concern and opportunities; prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for senior management; assist managers in interpreting financial and budget reports and planning budgets.
  • Cost Management: Identify cost-reduction strategies across global operations; analyze spending patterns and identify areas for optimization; collaborate with cross-functional teams for efficient resource allocation and cost control.
  • Systems & Reporting: Participate in system implementation projects for new FP&A tools; develop and maintain standardized reporting systems; prepare accurate and timely financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communication: Prepare clear, business-focused communications about financial performance and variances from budget; build effective communication channels to understand economics of assigned business areas.
  • Other duties as requested.

What You’ll Need to Be Successful

  • Strong analytical skills to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and draw meaningful conclusions; expert attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Financial expertise in accounting principles, budgeting techniques, and financial analysis methods.
  • Effective communication with diverse stakeholders across time zones and cultures; ability to convey financial information in business terms.
  • Global perspective with knowledge of international markets, currency fluctuations, and cross-border transactions; experience with global budgeting and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in software tools: strong MS Excel, NetSuite, ERP systems, MS Office; experience with data visualization tools including Power BI; advanced financial modeling skills.
  • Work Ethic: Professionalism, discretion, strategic thinking, and ability to influence; strong time management and organization; positive, growth-oriented attitude.
  • Experience: 5+ years in FP&A, preferably with international operations.

Work Environment

  • Berkeley, CA
  • 4 days in the office, 1 day work-from-home (Wednesdays)

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range: $115,000.00 - $145,000.00. New hires are typically offered a starting salary between the minimum and midpoint of the range, with opportunities for progression.
