Overview

Assistant/Associate Teaching Professor or Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice, Graduate Nursing (PMHNP) – Remote (National). This is a 12-month, full-time contract teaching position within the School of Nursing at Simmons University, reporting to the Director of Advanced Practice - PMHNP Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching responsibilities: standard teaching load for full-time Graduate Nursing contract faculty is seven courses per academic year (or equivalent as approved).
  • Serve as Course Coordinator for courses determined by the Program Director, managing day-to-day operations and program needs for assigned courses.
  • Oversee curriculum, faculty, and student experience in coordinated sections; ensure academic rigor and curricular alignment with School of Nursing standards and CCNE accreditation.
  • Make recommendations for course development and revisions; collaborate with the course iteration team.
  • Partner with the Staffing Specialist to vet and hire adjunct faculty for online course sections in collaboration with the Program Director.
  • Mentor and develop Section Instructors; help ensure faculty readiness for online teaching and learning methods; support faculty retention and development.
  • Support immersion programs and participate in graduate nursing courses throughout the contractual year, including supervision of students and provision of online and synchronous session coverage.
  • Provide oversight of student experience and resolution of student issues in collaboration with Program Director and academic support staff; monitor grading practices and communicate with program leadership on course, instructor, and student concerns.
  • Prepare and supervise Section Instructors, conduct regular meetings, and observe classes to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Engage in service to the University (curriculum development, committees, governance) and maintain professional engagement to stay current in the field.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Master's degree in nursing or higher; doctoral degree (DNSc, DNP or equivalent) or progress toward doctoral degree, with ability to complete within five years.
  • Current PMHNP national board certification; licensed as PMHNP; Massachusetts RN license (and Massachusetts APRN license for Boston campus teaching).
  • Current PMHNP clinical practice required; graduate nursing education experience preferred; minimum of 5 years of academic experience for candidates without a doctoral degree.
  • Graduate-level teaching experience and online teaching exposure preferred.
  • Strong commitment to collegiality and working with students from diverse backgrounds and identities.

Terms of Service

This is a remote 12-month contract role reporting to the Director of Advanced Practice - PMHNP Programs. The standard teaching load is seven courses per academic year or equivalent. Faculty must adhere to Simmons policies.
