Position: Model Based Systems Engineer II (MBSE II)
Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid/Remote Considered)
Clearance Requirement: Current Secret clearance required
Position Overview
XSITE LLC is seeking a Model Based Systems Engineer II to support the architecture, modeling, and digital engineering efforts across complex defense systems and System-of-Systems (SoS). This individual will play a pivotal role in modernizing how systems are designed, analyzed, and validated using model-based tools and processes in support of Department of Defense (DoD) programs.
This position requires a strong grasp of MBSE principles, experience with modeling languages like SysML/UML, and a collaborative mindset for working in cross-platform digital environments.
Core Responsibilities
Digital Engineering & Model Development
  • Develop, analyze, and maintain models and digital artifacts across the acquisition lifecycle-from requirements through sustainment.
  • Apply MBSE techniques to support system requirements, architecture, design, analysis, verification, and validation activities.
  • Create and maintain system-of-systems models to ensure interoperability and traceability of digital products.
  • Support the generation of deliverables consistent with Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) or Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
Tool & Platform Utilization
  • Use MBSE tools such as MagicDraw/Cameo, Enterprise Architect, System Architect, Rational Rhapsody, or similar platforms to develop and manage system models.
  • Generate architecture views, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and system behavior models to support stakeholder understanding and system definition.
Collaboration & Integration
  • Interface with systems engineers, program managers, cybersecurity, and configuration management teams to ensure a unified digital engineering thread.
  • Contribute to the implementation of a model-based culture across the organization and support digital enterprise initiatives.
  • Generate reports and briefings that support MBSE activities and inform technical and programmatic decisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Current Secret clearance (must be active and verifiable).
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, or another science/technical discipline involving advanced mathematical concepts.
  • Strong understanding of model-based systems engineering principles and methodologies.
  • Familiarity with MBSE lifecycle integration in support of government acquisition programs.
Desired Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional experience performing Model Based Systems Engineering within a DoD environment.
  • Experience applying MBSE throughout the acquisition lifecycle, including requirements, analysis, design, V&V, and sustainment.
  • Working knowledge of SysML and/or UML.
  • Experience with MBSE tools such as:
    • Cameo Systems Modeler / MagicDraw
    • Sparx Systems Enterprise Architect
    • IBM Rational Rhapsody
  • Knowledge of DoDAF and/or UAF for generating architecture views and integrating digital threads across domains.
  • Experience working in environments promoting the use of digital engineering and model-based culture.
