General Summary of Position
As a Building Engineer, you will leverage your advanced skills to carry out complex preventive maintenance and corrective repairs across buildings, industrial systems, vehicles, equipment, and grounds. With minimal supervision, you will monitor the operations and performance of building systems while applying your expertise in various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and HVAC.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and safety directives related to building operations.
- Inspect building systems such as fire alarms, HVAC, and plumbing to confirm operational effectiveness and adherence to environmental standards.
- Oversee and evaluate the work of outside contractors in areas including landscaping, snow removal, remodeling, and cleaning.
- Carry out emergency and preventive maintenance tasks, documenting maintenance and repair activities as necessary.
- Review assigned work orders, estimate time and materials for repairs, and procure required materials.
- Implement an effective energy management program to optimize system efficiency and minimize operational costs.
- Maintain and repair the building's lighting system, including elements and ballasts.
- Perform tasks in welding, carpentry, furniture assembly, and locksmithing as needed.
- Quickly respond to emergency situations and coordinate additional assistance if required.
- Execute all assigned duties efficiently and professionally.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, along with a minimum of four years of related experience or trade school training.
Licenses and Certifications
- Engineer 2nd Grade - ENG 2NDG Maryland State 1st or 2nd Class Stationary Engineer License required.
- Universal CFC Refrigeration Certification required.
- Additional certification in areas such as electrical, mechanical, HVAC and refrigeration systems, plumbing, carpentry, or engine repair is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Communication Skills: Ability to effectively interpret instructions and respond to inquiries from various stakeholders.
- Financial Knowledge: Basic understanding of financial principles and ability to perform simple calculations.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to tackle practical problems with limited standardization and demonstrate analytical skills.
- Other Skills: Proficient in using personal computers, work order systems, and basic Microsoft Office tools. Physical demands include the ability to lift over 50 lbs, as well as stooping, standing, and climbing.
- Scope of Responsibility: Make decisions within the framework of company policies, with awareness of potential impacts on colleagues and operations.
This position has a hiring range of $30.67 - $46.52.
