Job Title: Sr. Accountant

Location: Boston, MA
Pay rate: $35 TO 40/HR
Duration : 3+ Month Contract role

Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the preparation and analysis of monthly financial statements, general ledger reconciliations, system controls, and internal financial reports. This position will assist with tax filings, annual audits, and budget processes while ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies. The Senior Accountant may also provide direct supervision and mentorship to entry-level accounting staff.

Essential Responsibilities:

Oversee and train staff accountant(s) in daily general ledger functions, month-end and year-end close processes, journal entries, and reconciliations.

Prepare and review monthly journal entries and reconciliations for assigned general ledger accounts (e.g., cash, receivables, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, payables, accrued expenses).

Review and post departmental journal entries and uploads submitted by accounting staff.

Conduct high-level general ledger analysis and prepare variance reports on assigned accounts.

Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures with oversight from the Accounting Manager and Controller.

Collaborate with other departments to ensure consistency and compliance with accounting policies and year-end procedures.

Work with Financial Information Systems (FIS) to support system maintenance, upgrades, and enhancements to the general ledger platform (Lawson preferred).

Assist in onboarding and ongoing training of new and current accounting staff; support cross-training initiatives.

Foster team collaboration, open communication, and a professional working environment in line with organizational values.

Report potential financial exposures or irregularities to the Accounting Manager.

Perform additional routine and ad hoc projects as assigned.

Uphold the hospital's RESPECT behavioral standards and promote a culture of integrity and excellence.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
CPA or CPA candidacy preferred but not required.
Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
Master's degree in accounting or finance with at least 2 years of experience may be considered.
Supervisory experience preferred, particularly with month-end and year-end processes.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Strong understanding of GAAP in a non-profit healthcare environment.
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in General Ledger systems (Lawson preferred) and Microsoft Excel and Word.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; able to interact effectively with internal departments and external partners.
Leadership skills with the ability to guide and mentor staff.
High degree of professionalism, discretion, and commitment to confidentiality.
Flexible, positive attitude with a desire to contribute to a high-performance team and grow within the organization.

Work Environment:
Hybrid work model: Onsite every Wednesday, remote work permitted on remaining weekdays.

Standard office environment with occasional extended hours during close or audit cycles.
