Grants Accountant (GA) (40 hours, Full-time) Exempt


BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. We are looking for an experienced professional to join as a Grants Accountant. This role involves supporting our growth through process improvements, automation, and best practices. You will work closely with the Grants Monitor and Program Directors, with opportunities to influence our accounting infrastructure. The position reports to the Grants Monitor and does not supervise staff.


Duties and Responsibilities



  • Liaise with Program Directors on programmatic activity and funding implications.

  • Prepare reports for government funders, ensuring timely submission of vouchers and compliance documents.

  • Establish supporting files for audits and other requests, including detailed reporting of government receivables.

  • Collaborate on quarterly reviews and budget modifications with Program and Development teams.

  • Assist with special projects as needed.

  • Provide financial advice and expertise to senior management.


Requirements


Need-to-haves:



  • Bachelor's/Associates degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting roles.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP.

  • Ability to work flexible hours at our offices.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

  • Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking.


Nice-to-haves:



  • Advanced Excel skills (VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, macros, pivot tables, data queries).

  • Experience with QuickBooks and non-profit accounting.

  • Familiarity with third-party platforms like Bill.com, Paylocity, Expensify, Little Green Light, or Apricot.

  • Knowledge of intercompany accounting.
