Information Services strategically supports the organization by: Leveraging AI, automation, and rollout of advanced cyber controls that support digital transformation strategies Implementing advanced technologies in clinical and administrative areas Furthering development of the end-user support model to help enhance modern infrastructure Responsibilities The Data Engineer is responsible for delivering data warehouse and analytic solutions by ingesting, integrating, and curating data, building analytical solutions, and administering systems to deliver information to the health system. Serves as a functional and content expert of the data warehouse to synthesize raw data into actionable information for analytical solutions. Applies knowledge of relational database skills including advanced SQL knowledge and the ability to create complex queries and stored procedures. Collaborates with the Architecture team in the design and execution of solutions. Ensures that new and existing data models and databases are consistent with approved data architecture standards. Provides facilitation, analysis, design, and execution of architecture solutions, ensuring they are leveraged effectively. Creates, documents, and communicates the integration approach of all components of the solution. Defines key solutions and ensures they are managed for consumption by users and across teams. Researches, analyzes, determines capabilities, and proposes solution alternatives to address specific business needs and product/service strategies. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. Actively explores emerging technologies. Works independently with business users to gather and scope requirements and recommends analytical solutions to meet business needs. Assists with ETL design and development, including data analysis, source-target mapping, quality profiling, change data capture, and code performance. Evaluates data quality and interprets results clearly and concisely. Documents all programming changes and system modifications, including their maintenance. Owns analytics projects and collaborates with the business to gather requirements, execute, and deliver analytical solutions that exceed customer expectations. Works collaboratively with and supports multi-department efforts and projects. Mentors staff by sharing skills, experience, knowledge, and expertise on analytic tools and solutions. Serves as a subject matter expert within the department. Provides training and support organization-wide on the use of analytics tools. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree or four additional years of experience Five or more years of experience in querying, analyzing data, and/or data modeling/architecture Experience with various data warehousing models and design fundamentals (e.g., Inmon, Kimball) Experience developing and maintaining ETL/data pipelines (e.g., Microsoft SSIS, Azure Data Factory) Experience with OLAP or Tabular cube software Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, manipulation, and reporting Previous experience in an Agile environment Strong relational database skills, including advanced SQL and complex query/stored procedure creation Experience with report writing and data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Crystal Reports, SSRS Preferred: Experience developing, designing, and supporting applications and relational databases Experience with statistical analysis software (R, Python, etc.) Previous experience working with Epic Clarity data Healthcare experience, ideally with a health system Equal Opportunity Northwestern Medicine is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate based on age, sex, race, religion, national origin, gender identity, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected status.
