The Carter Center: Sr Associate Director, Conflict Resolution Program The Carter Center is seeking a Senior Associate Director, reporting to the Program Director, to support leadership and management of the Conflict Resolution Program and to serve as Deputy/Acting Director as needed. The role leads planning, implementation, and evaluation of program initiatives, with primary responsibility for CRP’s U.S. work and expansion. The senior role includes supervising staff and contractors; overseeing project development, grant proposals, budgets, and reporting; engaging in policy formulation, risk management, and program promotion. The SAD represents CRP with internal and external partners, develops strategies responsive to U.S. conflict dynamics, and fosters collaborations with government, private, and international stakeholders. Additional responsibilities may include fundraising, publishing research, and managing financial operations. Travel to various locations and Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) may be required.

Assumes a senior role in the planning, development, and implementation of various aspects of a complex global program.

Serves as a liaison and key spokesperson to various committees and organizations; leads policy formulation, strategy development, and management of daily operations.

Collaborates with representatives from private, government, and international agencies to design, implement and/or evaluate program-related projects and strategies that address public needs.

Conducts research, designs new initiatives, and writes publishable articles and papers.

May write grant proposals and prepare/present associated reports to funding organizations and clients.

May engage in fundraising initiatives on behalf of the program.

May oversee the annual budget and other financial aspects of the program.

May supervise staff.

Performs related responsibilities as required.

Minimum qualifications

Master's degree in a field related to the program and seven years of professional experience related to the program and previous supervisory and program/project management experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

Preferred qualifications

Post-graduate degree in conflict resolution, political science, sociology, law, or related fields. 15 years of equivalent work experience, if no advanced degree, will also be considered.

Proven experience in U.S.-focused conflict resolution, including a mix of international and U.S.-focused work.

Experience with facilitation and the ability to work across political and sectarian divides.

Familiarity with conflict assessment methodologies; experience with electoral violence mapping, identifying triggers and conflict prevention approaches is desirable.

Understanding of U.S. politics and political trends, including experience in local, state, or national legislative or executive operations, grassroots organizing, or related campaigns or communications.

Understanding of strategic political communications and messaging, including approaches, tools, and measurement.

Experience with U.S. nonprofits working on domestic conflict mitigation, and familiarity with voting rights and voter mobilization groups is helpful.

Experience using data analytics for conflict mapping and risk analysis is a plus.
