The IT Network Engineer, under the direction of the Operations Manager, is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise network infrastructure supporting the Georgia Secretary of State. This role focuses on advanced engineering of network systems, ensuring secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity across data centers, offices, and remote sites. The position requires strong technical expertise in routing, switching, firewalling, and network architecture, as well as the ability to lead complex projects and mentor team members. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Designs, engineers, and implements enterprise network solutions across LAN, WAN, wireless, and data center environments. Leads major networking projects including migrations, new deployments, and infrastructure refreshes. Engineers and manages advanced routing, switching, and firewall policies (BGP, OSPF, VRF, NGFW, VPN/IPSec). Collaborates with security teams to design and enforce network security controls, segmentation, and monitoring strategies. Develops and maintains high-availability and disaster recovery designs for critical systems. Proactively analyzes and optimizes network performance, scalability, and reliability. Acts as final escalation for complex network and telecommunications issues. Research and evaluate new technologies, providing recommendations to leadership for adoption. Produces and maintains network architecture diagrams, standards, and documentation. Mentors and provides guidance to administrators and junior staff. Contributes to the safe, fair, and secure elections for the citizens of Georgia. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Expert-level knowledge of enterprise routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, VRF, VXLAN). Strong knowledge of firewalls, VPN, IDS/IPS, and NGFW policy design. Advanced understanding of network redundancy, QoS, and high-availability design. Ability to architect and implement secure segmented networks and large-scale wireless systems. Demonstrated experience with network monitoring, telemetry, and performance tuning. Strong documentation, design, and technical writing skills. Excellent communication and leadership abilities for cross-team collaboration. Ability to manage multiple high-impact projects with minimal supervision. Supervision Requirements: 0 direct reports but may serve as lead/mentor for administrators and contractors. Minimum Qualifications: Associate's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field OR equivalent hands-on experience. Five (5) or more years of professional experience supporting enterprise networking environments. Working knowledge of layer 3 networking (routing, switching, VLANs, VRFs). Experience with firewalls, VPNs, and wireless technologies. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues with limited supervision. Valid Class C Georgia Driver's License and satisfactory motor vehicle record. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from a nationally accredited university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. Seven (7) or more years of network engineering experience in enterprise environments. Hands-on experience with Aruba/Cisco switching, Palo Alto NGFWs, and enterprise wireless. Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP. Experience with routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and high-availability network design. Experience with network monitoring/management tools and documenting architectures. This is a full-time in-person position and must be a US citizen.
