PURPOSE :
The
Background Check Specialist
is responsible for helping with the background check investigation process. Coordinating and documenting required background check requests and results. Conducts quality assurance reviews to ensure background checks are submitted completely and accurately prior to submission and within the required timeframes and deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree preferred. At least 3 years of experience conducting background checks or working in a related compliance or investigative role. Strong knowledge of background screening processes and relevant legal regulations, including FCRA compliance. Proficiency with background screening software and databases. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills. Must be able to work from office location at zip code 77021. Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive background checks on prospective employees, contractors, and vendors using various databases and public records. Verify employment history, educational qualifications, criminal records, credit reports, and other pertinent information in accordance with legal and company standards. Ensure all background screening processes comply with federal, state, and local laws, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Maintain accurate and confidential records of all background check activities and findings. Monitor background check results, identify missing or inconsistent documentation, and escalate issues to management or compliance teams to ensure timely resolution and uninterrupted program operations. Communicate findings clearly and professionally to HR and management teams, providing recommendations when necessary. Stay updated on changes in relevant laws and industry best practices to continuously improve screening procedures. Respond promptly to inquiries from candidates regarding their background check status and resolve any discrepancies or disputes.
Working Conditions/ Physical Effort
Work is performed mostly in an office setting. Some overnight travel, public speaking, evening and weekend work are requirements of the position. Regular computer works also required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; finger, handle, or feel objects, or controls; reach; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
