HDR Engineering is looking for a Data Center Substation Physical Designer to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals in our Substation group.

As a Data Center Substation Physical Designer in a well-established Power Delivery practice, you'll draw upon your technical knowledge and experience in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) and at least three years as a Designer of high voltage substation projects to work on mission-critical, fast-paced data center substation projects. Having previously performed a designer role on simple to moderately complex substation projects, you'll be prepared for greater challenges and responsibilities in the emerging data center market focused on speed to market and reliability. The successful candidate will be part of a team that primarily performs engineering for data center substation clients. This role offers excellent growth opportunities for self-directed individuals eager to learn and take on new challenges. Candidates may be placed in a Designer I, II, or Senior role depending on experience and skills. In this role, you'll:

Work independently on substation design tasks, including CADD design, developing drawings and documents, modeling, analysis, preparing material lists, and field reviews for simple to moderately complex projects. Prepare physical substation design drawings such as General Arrangements, Sections, Grounding & Conduit Plans, and Foundation Plans. Develop substation material lists (BOM) with manufacturer part numbers, quantities, and footage. Perform basic calculations, reports, and designs to support engineers in electrical substations (Low, Medium, and High Voltage). Understand client standards and complete small to moderately complex projects with judgment in design criteria, evaluation, and design, under review by engineers. Perform most design responsibilities independently on simple projects and work with some guidance on more complex projects. Communicate effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, and clients. Preferred Qualifications:

Associates or technical school degree or relevant experience. Minimum of 5 years of experience in developing Substation CADD layouts and designs. Experience with architectural/engineering or consulting firms. Experience with Protection and Control aspects of High Voltage Substation design, including One Line Diagrams and Schematics. Knowledge of industry standards such as NESC, IEEE, NEC. Extensive knowledge of substations' components and required drawings. Understanding of physical substation layout, elevations, grounding, foundations, and conduit. Our Values and Commitment:

Technical degree or relevant industry experience. At least 5 years of related industry experience. Proficiency in 3D design software and document management. Knowledge of industry standards, discipline codes, and specifications. Excellent communication, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
