The Division of Correctional Health Services (CHS)
of New York City Health + Hospitals (H+H), this role involves delivering medical care, mental health care, and discharge planning in the jail system. Approximately 25% of new admissions per year will receive care on the mental health service, which provides holistic, evidence-based interventions, specialty housing units, a 24-hour psychiatric service, creative arts programming, DBT training, clinics, substance use treatment, re-entry services, and collaborations with training institutions. Responsibilities
Orient patients to policies, procedures, rules, and routines Utilize crisis and de-escalation techniques as needed Identify triggers for agitated behaviors and communicate with the team Perform patient checks/rounds Communicate clinical matters to staff and report changes in patient conditions Escort patients to groups or other locations Monitor patients 1:1 for behavioral management Participate in clinical training Lead or co-lead group activities, document accordingly Respond to emergencies and cooperate with DOC staff for safety Attend supervision sessions Maintain professional appearance and demeanor Perform other duties as directed Interface with DOC staff during incidents, debrief, and crisis resolution Working Conditions
Normal correctional health environment at assigned facilities, located on Rikers Island. Qualifications
Associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Services, or health-related field High School diploma or GED plus two years of related experience Or a combination of the above Ability to follow written and oral instructions Ability to establish positive relationships with patients and staff Benefits
