Fiber Technician Reports To:
Lead Communications Technician or Superintendent Job Summary:
The Fiber Technician is responsible for all aspects of fiber optic work, including installing, terminating, testing, and splicing. Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Cabling & Termination:
Install work area outlets, mount faceplates and surface boxes, build closets, install grounding, complete IDC connections, and perform testing and troubleshooting of fiber optic cables. Terminate various connector types and breakout outside plant fiber. Calculate loss budgets and complete all paperwork accurately. Testing:
Use OTDR and Fluke DTX 180 for testing and troubleshooting fiber optic systems. Splicing:
Perform mechanical and fusion splicing, including building entrance and direct buried splices. Physical and Mental Requirements:
Must be self-motivated, professional, and capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and lifting up to 75 pounds. Must have good color vision, hearing, and the ability to travel as needed. Regular attendance is mandatory. Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED Proficiency with tools and termination methods for fiber systems Experience with testing and troubleshooting fiber systems Preferred certifications (e.g., Corning/FOA), 3-5 years of experience, and specific industry experience Valid driver’s license, own vehicle, and fiber splicing knowledge Career Path:
Lead Communications Technician, with salary range $25.00–$32.00/hr. Additional Requirements:
Experience with fiber splicing and CATV equipment Minimum 2-4 years in plant maintenance or fiber optic experience Ability to read manuals and operate specialized equipment Company Overview & EEO Statement:
