Data Engineer/ETL McLean, VA
Fuel Consulting is seeking a data engineer/ETL subject matter expert to work in a high tempo, operational environment in McLean, VA. The data engineer will manipulate data and data flows for both existing and new systems. Additionally, they will provide support in data extraction, transformation, load (ETL), data mapping, data extraction, analytical support, operational support, database support, and maintenance of data and systems. Candidates will work in a multi-tasking, fast-paced, dynamic, process-improvement environment that requires experience with large-scale database development, file manipulation, data modeling, data testing, data quality, and documentation.
Required Knowledge/Skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience
10+ years of software engineering and ETL experience
Experience with NiFi or Pentaho for data flows
Strong organizational, coordination, interpersonal, and team skills
TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance required
Desired Knowledge/Skills
Languages: Java/J2EE, C, C++, SQL, XML, XQuery, XPath, Ruby on Rails, HTML/XHTML, CSS, Python, Shell Scripting, JSON
Knowledge of Windows, Linux, distributed computing, cloud infrastructure
Problem-solving skills
Understanding of database methodologies
Focus on process improvement and proactive problem solving
Ability to follow directions and complete tasks
Key Responsibilities
Research, design, develop, or modify enterprise systems/software
Develop or enhance data pipelines
Resolve hardware/software compatibility issues
Conduct complex investigations and tests
Research emerging technologies
Contribute to technical documentation
Troubleshoot ETL problems and support customers
Advise hardware engineers on system characteristics
Prepare analytical and progress reports
Provide guidance to less experienced engineers
Potentially serve as a team or task leader
