Maintenance Mechanic

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician to perform preventive and corrective maintenance on rail cars and equipment used for transporting packaged cement products. This role requires the use of onsite tools, including a grease gun, and the ability to navigate up to 26 flights of stairs for specific repair tasks. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, takes pride in their workmanship, and possesses strong skills in welding, cutting, and troubleshooting electrical systems, including 480V systems and rail car batteries.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct maintenance and repair tasks on plant equipment and rail cars.
  • Collect and analyze data for preventive and predictive maintenance projects.
  • Perform millwright duties, including bearing replacement, equipment alignment, and power transmission inspection and repair.
  • Execute welding and cutting tasks for equipment fabrication and repair of worn process equipment.
  • Monitor and record lubrication data for mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collect lab samples and manage oil changes and filter replacements for equipment oil reservoirs.
  • Install, maintain, and inspect piping structures as a pipefitter.
  • Operate mobile equipment to support maintenance activities.
  • Inspect and repair plumbing systems for plant equipment and facilities.
  • Adhere strictly to OSHA and MSHA regulations, wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Uphold and exceed company safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Essential Skills:

  • Proficient in welding and cutting techniques.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in a warehouse or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices.
  • Ability to perform manual labor and general maintenance tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience with heavy lifting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with operating equipment is a plus but not required.

Work Environment:

This role is based at a cement supplier facility, which is subject to extreme temperatures, high noise levels, and outdoor conditions. Employees must wear PPE and adhere to a dress code of long pants, a T-shirt, and steel-toe boots. You will work in a close-knit team of 23 to meet production goals. The position operates on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional Saturday work based on demand. Expect an average of 10 hours of overtime per week, with up to 30 hours during peak seasons.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. This is a fully onsite position in Charlotte, NC.
