Mechanic Job at New Braunfels High School in New Braunfels

Primary Purpose:

Perform mechanical repairs to ensure the proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Work on assigned projects following established procedures. Drive school buses as a substitute driver when necessary.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Class B CDL or Class A CDL with Passenger and School Bus Driver Endorsements.
Texas Bus Driver Certification.

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with minimal supervision.
Ability to operate vehicle repair equipment and tools.
Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts.
Ability to pass alcohol and drug tests.
Ability to pass bus driver physical exam and safety training.
Acceptable driving record.
Ability to operate a bus.

Experience/Other Requirements:

Two years of experience as a mechanic.
Must provide own hand tools for vehicle repairs.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Maintenance and Repairs:

1. Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical issues.
2. Perform necessary mechanical repairs.
3. Complete major repairs when required.
4. Conduct welding and minor bodywork.
5. Diagnose A/C and electrical systems.
6. Assist and train the mechanic's helper in minor repairs and preventive maintenance.
7. Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding air tanks, as scheduled.

Safety:

1. Operate tools and machinery following safety procedures.
2. Follow safety protocols during all job activities.
3. Identify and report unsafe conditions immediately.
4. Maintain shop safety and equipment condition.

Other:

1. Maintain accurate records of repairs and materials used.
2. Operate buses and other district vehicles as needed.
3. Work irregular hours when required.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Equipment Used:

Diagnostic tools, wheel balancing and tire repair equipment, hand tools, drills, grinder, air tools, welding torch, jacks, lifts, buses, and other district vehicles.

Working Conditions:

Moderate physical activity including walking, standing, climbing, lifting, and bending. Work may be outside or inside, around moving vehicles and machinery. Exposure to humidity, chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline, and diesel fuels.
