Meter Reader

DescriptionEssential Job FunctionsAn employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essentialduties: Read and record consumer water meters in accordance with an assigned schedule and route. Identify sites for meter reading and uses maps to establish a systematic route. Enter meter readings into a hand-held meter reading computer. Ensure accuracy of readings. Examine meters for signs of tampering and reports inoperative, leaking, malfunctioning, ordamaged meters and registers. Tags property; report hazards including gas odors and exposed electrical wiring. Report violations of backflow prevention. Answer general questions regarding billing or other utilities-related subjects. Advise the public of rules, codes, and procedures. Instruct the public on reading meters and calculating consumptions for personal records. Relay inquiries to Meter Reader Supervisor when appropriate. Post non-payment notices. Posts sign-up or shut-down notices. Turn water services on and off as required. Make appointments for readings to be re-checked. Make field repairs to water meters and performs routine maintenance. Pull meters for calibration. Clean brush, dirt, or vines away from meter boxes using appropriate equipment and tools.Generate requests to Maintenance and Operations for larger repairs.Suggest changes to improve routing and meter location information.Locate water meters for work and construction crews.Assist in making emergency repairs to water mains.Perform related tasks as required.Openings 1
