Job ResponsibilitiesThe S.C. Criminal Justice Academy (Academy) is seeking a reliable and motivated individual to join our outstanding automotive services team. Responsibilities include the following:Performs automotive and diesel maintenance and repairs on all Academy vehicles.Assists with the inventory management of vehicle parts, accessories, tools, and shop equipment; ensures the availability of necessary supplies through procurement or salvaging parts from decommissioned vehicles.Maintains the cleanliness and function of the shop.Coordinates student transportation on campus.Collaborates with Academy instructional staff to schedule and coordinate all driving programs involving Academy vehicles.Performs additional related duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the Driving Range Garage Unit. Minimum and Additional Requirements Minimum requirements:The candidate must have a high school diploma or GED and work experience that involves the independent performance of job duties in maintaining automotive equipment. Must possess and maintain a valid SC driver's license.Additional requirements:Knowledge of vehicle diagnostics using computerized test equipmentSkilled in using testing and measuring instrumentsAbility to interpret technical service manualsManual dexterity and ability to reach, talk, and hearFrequently stands, walks, and sits; occasionally climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawlsAbility to lift/move up to 100 pounds when necessaryVisual abilities: close, distant, color, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustmentAbility to work with inmate labor assigned to the garageWorks under general supervisionMust be available for evening training classes occasionally. Preferred QualificationsAlthough not mandatory, we prefer a candidate with experience in specialized classes in automotive, diesel, or body repairs or related experience and who possesses a CDL (activity bus/school bus) or the ability to obtain one within twelve (12) months of hire.
