Overview
Senior Manager, Analytics Engineering role at Apartment List. We are seeking to lead a team of analytics engineers responsible for designing and building the company’s trusted data foundations. The role reports to the Director of Data Strategy and Product Analytics and involves cross-functional collaboration with Product, Finance, Marketing, Data Science, and GTM to define requirements and set the analytics engineering roadmap. Responsibilities
Own the design and evolution of our analytics data architecture, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance. Manage and prioritize the analytics engineering roadmap, balancing business needs with foundational technical work. Lead, mentor, and grow a team of analytics engineers, fostering technical excellence and career development. Lead the response to high-pressure, revenue-impacting data incidents by coordinating cross-functional teams, mitigating risk quickly, and driving long-term solutions to prevent recurrence. Partner with stakeholders across Product, Finance, Marketing, Data Science, and GTM to understand reporting and data needs, translating them into technical requirements and setting the analytics roadmap. Enable AI product development by transforming relational data into graph-based structures (nodes, edges, properties) to support advanced queries such as pathfinding, relationship mapping, and recommendations. Champion and design practices around data governance, documentation, testing, reliability and quality standards across datasets and reporting tools. Oversee and optimize BI and analytics tooling to enable self-serve reporting and trusted metrics. Collaborate with Engineering to evolve the data platform, ensuring pipelines are efficient, maintainable, and cost-optimized. Own the design and ongoing evolution of frontend event data strategy, ensuring robust instrumentation and consistent standards in partnership with Engineering. Qualifications
6+ years in data or analytics engineering, 3+ years in a leadership or management role. Strong technical expertise in SQL, dbt, and modern data modeling practices. Expert proficiency with ETL/ELT frameworks and tools (e.g., Airflow, Fivetran). Experience designing and maintaining analytics data pipelines, testing practices, and architecture in cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery). Hands-on experience with BI tooling (Looker, Tableau, or equivalent), including semantic layers, dashboards, and governance. Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management, able to balance competing priorities and communicate clearly across technical and business teams. Track record of delivering scalable, high-quality data solutions in a fast-paced environment. Strong people management experience, including setting goals, driving accountability, and developing talent. Bonus skills: Data roadmap planning and balancing business requests with foundational infrastructure investments. Graph data modeling, including node/edge/property schemas from relational or tabular data. Experience with Python or another object-oriented programming language. Strong LookML experience. At Apartment List, we carefully consider compensation based on role, level, and location. The US base salary range for this position is: Zone 1: $182,000 - $220,000 TTC (including $160,000 - $193,000 base salary) + equity Zone 2: $168,000 - $203,000 TTC (including $148,000 - $179,000 base salary) + equity Zone 3: $155,000 - $187,000 TTC (including $135,000 - $164,000 base salary) + equity This reflects the compensation target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. The compensation details do not include benefits and perks. We consider market indicators, work location, skills, experience, and education to determine fair and competitive compensation. Exceptional candidates may receive compensation near the higher end of the range in certain circumstances. Additional Benefits (full-time US-based employees only)
