Maintenance Worker II (Golf Course)

The Coronado Golf Course is one of the City of Coronado's most treasured assets. Opening in 1957, it is rated as one of the best public golf courses in the nation. Located just minutes from downtown San Diego over the iconic San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge, it offers beautiful San Diego harbor and downtown views and is sure to be a favorite destination for anyone who enjoys the game of Golf. The course measures 6,590 yards from the blue tees and is a par 72 course with state-of-the-art Rain golf course irrigation control systems.

The Position The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills in order to work efficiently and effectively with other City Departments, employees, and contractors. This person should be self-motivated, take initiative and work well as part of a team-oriented department. The ideal candidate would be familiar with or learn a variety of tasks in the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course including mowing fairways, greens, tees and roughs, raking and edging traps, edge cart paths and curbs, maintain golf tee boxes and greens; change cups, move tee markers; maintain, rake and remove debris from sand traps. Possession of, or ability to obtain a Qualified Applicators Certificate issued through the California Department of Pesticide Regulations is desired, but not necessary for this position.

Minimum Requirements Experience: At least two (2) years of maintenance experience in assigned program area. Golf course or landscaping maintenance experience is highly desired. Education/Training:

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance. Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within twelve (12) months of appointment is highly desirable. Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License with a safe driving record is required. Examination & Selection Process:

Application Review:

The Human Resources Division must receive a completed City of Coronado employment application and resume by 11:59 PM PST on September 26, 2025. The review date may be extended. Applications will be reviewed on the basis of relevant education, training, and experience.

Examination Process:

Applicants considered most qualified after the application review process will be invited to participate in an oral panel interview (100%).

Department Interview:

The top candidates will be invited to a department interview which may include a written assessment with the Recreation & Golf Services Director and Golf Superintendent.

Candidate Selection:

The selected candidate will be issued a conditional offer, subject to the successful completion of background check and medical examination including a drug screen.

A rich benefits package contributes to the total compensation value. Cafeteria allotment is dependent on medical enrollment plan. Employees that earn over the maximum benefit of $5,000/month available under the long-term disability plan, have the option to purchase enhanced long-term disability insurance. The City provides up to $2,000 per fiscal year for reimbursement of directly related costs of tuition, school fees, books, and required materials for approved courses and professional development opportunities. HOLIDAYS The City observes 12 holidays and provides eight (8) hours of holiday pay to employees on the following days:

Enrollment in the California Public Employee's Retirement System (CalPERS) as follows: 2@62 PEPRA Members

Participants enrolled in the CalPERS Retirement Plan after January 1, 2013, are considered new members. The retirement benefit is based on age at retirement, years of service, and a consecutive 36-month compensation period. Employees currently pay 7.50% (pre-tax) toward the retirement contribution, which for PEPRA members, is determined by CalPERS each fiscal year based upon the actuarial report. 3@60 Classic Members

Participants enrolled in the CalPERS Retirement Plan to January 1, 2013, with no break in service or a break in service of less than 6 months are considered Classic Members. The retirement benefit is based on age of retirement, years of service, and the single highest year of compensation. Employees pay 9.5% (pre-tax) toward retirement benefit. Deferred Compensation: Employees are eligible to join the ICMA-RC 457 deferred compensation plan. This plan allows employees to set aside pre-tax wages for retirement.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:

Cafeteria Benefit Plan The City provides a Cafeteria Benefit Plan that is dependent on medical plan enrollment. This can be used to help cover the cost of medical dental, vision, supplemental life insurance, and ancillary benefits. Short Term & Long-Term Disability

The City provides short-term disability insurance equal to 66-2/3% of income (up to $1,000/week) after a 14-day waiting period. The City provides long-term disability insurance with a monthly benefit of up to $5,000 after a 90-day waiting period. Employees have the option to elect enhances long-term disability insurance (up to $8,000/month). Life Insurance:

The City provides group term life insurance and AD&D in an amount equal to $25,000. In addition to the basic group life insurance provided by the City, employees may purchase up to $500,000 of supplemental life insurance. Coverage over $150,000 is subject to approval by the insurance provider. Employees may also elect supplemental life insurance coverage for their spouses/registered domestic partner and child(ren). Employee Assistance Program:

The City provides an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). The EAP provides confidential evaluation and up to 6 free counseling visits for employees, family members, and anyone residing in the home of an employee. Uniform Allowance

The City provides employees work shirts and pants except for those positions for which the City provides uniform service. The City provides a $175 reimbursement towards the purchase of work shoes. Tuition Reimbursement:

Each fiscal year $1,000 is available for reimbursement for cost such as tuition, fees, books, and other required materials for approved courses leading to a college degree. Reimbursement is made upon written verification of satisfactory completion of coursework. All expenses in excess of $1,000 will roll over to subsequent years and will be reimbursed up to $1,000 per year so long as the employee remains employed with the City. Social Security & Medicare:
