Job Summary: Utility laborer; assists in the construction and maintenance of gas distribution and transmission lines.
Incumbents in this position will be held to the District's Gold Standard for Customer Service.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Incumbent will execute and/or assist in the completion of the following tasks: 1. Excavates for and installs service lines and main extensions: digs trenches with a shovel, pulls pipe through trench, backfills trench manually to cover pipe. Uses jack hammer to remove concrete and asphalt. 2. Repairs lines: digs-up broken line and bends over pipe to make repairs. 3. Welds polyethylene pipe and taps: makes connections on pipe to join pipe. 4. Kills lines: dig-up service or main and cap line. 5. Cleans equipment, loads materials, hooks-up heavy equipment, etc. 6. Must be able to safely and responsibly operate the automotive vehicle assigned. Must maintain assigned vehicle through appropriate operator maintenance and by keeping said vehicle clean and neat at all times. 7. Maintains tools and equipment in prescribed manner. 8. Maintains control of inventory items obtained from stock or carried on truck. 9. May be required to respond to gas leak calls and perform repairs when needed. 10. May be responsible for the safe operation of all heavy equipment including but not limited to: frontend loaders, backhoes, excavators and bobcats. 11. Maintains operator qualifications and completes computer-based training and performance evaluations through the Onboard LMS. 12. Other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
