Job Description
Mon.-Fri. 6am-2:30pm Duties/Responsibilities: Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains piping and plumbing systems composed of various materials; systems may include pipes, pressure and vacuum gauges, pipeline filters, steam traps, and strainer valves. Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions. Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine. Threads pipe using threading machine. Assembles and installs a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools. Secures pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools. Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meter, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. Tests piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks. Welds pipe supports to structural steel members. Observes production machines in assigned area of manufacturing facility to detect machinery malfunctions. Loads, transports, and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies. Performs minor maintenance of cleaning activities of tools and equipment. Observes and complies with all safety and project rules and all company policies and procedures. Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications. Ensure pipes meet proper specifications. Create pipe installation plans. Conduct quality control. Testing pipe systems to ensure safety and functionality. Welds, cuts, bends, threads, solders, and fits pipes. Attaches pipes and piping systems to walls using brackets, bracket systems, or clamps; cuts or bores holes prior to project. Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; safely removes and properly discards of old coverings according to hazardous waste procedures and in accordance with EPA and OSHA requirements. Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems. Coordinates with manager to schedule machinery maintenance, repairs, and installation to minimize disruption to operations. Comply with applicable safety and building codes, regulations and best practices. Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities:
Proficiency in blueprint reading and understanding technical specifications. Always attentive to detail and alert to ensure safety. Ability to receive and follow instructions and communicate with coworkers. Ability to read schematics and blueprints. Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements. Education and Experience:
Minimum three years of experience in mechanical systems. Knowledgeable of welding techniques, particularly FCAW, as well as soldering methods. Familiarity with HVAC systems and their installation requirements and a current EPA License. Experience piping with cooling towers and chillers equipment. Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods standing and stretching to install and repair pipes and pipe fittings. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times. Must possess visual acuity required to inspect piping systems and read plans or blueprints. Prolonged periods standing and performing repetitive tasks. Must have manual dexterity to assemble products or machines as directed. Must have excellent hand-eye coordination. Must wear safety eye protection, gloves protection, and ear protection. #450
