ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs general tasks in the construction, renovation, modification, installation and repair of county buildings, parks, apparatus, and facilities; makes minor repairs to wood fixtures, wood decks, handrails, signs, playgrounds, benches, ladders, and frames; and installs door locks, hinges, shelf brackets, and other hardware fixtures. Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard; repairs wooden cabinets and furniture; replaces floor and wall tile and grout; and maintains shop. Performs semi-skilled plumbing tasks; snakes and clears drains; repairs faucets and flush valves; installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing systems including pipes, fittings, fixtures, and drainage systems. Performs minor electrical tasks; replaces lamps and light fixtures; installs, maintains, and repairs small motors and electrical appliances. Performs general cleaning, moving, and stocking tasks; mops, sweeps, and vacuums floors; recycles materials; empties trash receptacles; dusts furniture and appliances; and moves furniture and office equipment. Assists in performing masonry work such as mixing concrete, stucco, block work, etc. Paints interior and exterior of buildings; pressure washes, sands, caulks, and primes walls and surfaces; and paints, sands, stains, cuts, and rolls walls and other surfaces. Cleans and maintains vehicles and equipment; transports vehicles and equipment to shop for service and repairs. Assists in performing landscape maintenance; and plants, transplants, and removes trees, plants, and shrubs. Provides exceptional customer assistance, problem-solving, and/or complaint resolution by all forms of communication. Min. Education, Licenses and Certifications Education and Experience:
An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience:
High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of experience in general maintenance and repair tasks or as a helper or as handyman in at least one of the major trades. Licenses and/or Certificates:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of departmental policies, plans, and procedures. Knowledge of modern office practices, plans, and procedures. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other job-related computer programs and software applications. Knowledge of the standard practices, methods, standard tools, and materials of the trade areas to which assigned. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the work assigned. Skill in the use and care of power and hand tools and equipment. Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing. Skill in prioritizing and organizing work. Skill in the use of office equipment such as a computer, multi-line telephone system, scanner, fax machine, and copier. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work effectively in a team or work unit situation. Ability to perform heavy manual labor. Ability to provide internal/external guidance and customer assistance via all forms of communication. Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and/or accounting purposes. Ability to author reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, service providers, other employees, and the general public.

Work is exposed to one or more disagreeable conditions (i.e., irate customers, outdoors weather conditions, excessive noise, extreme heat, odors, or dust).
RISK/SAFETY CONDITIONS
The position requires moderate exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety (e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, heavy equipment, assault and battery, communicable disease, etc.). EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES:
All County employees are required to work before, during, or after an emergency as needed. This may include temporarily being assigned to work and performing duties outside of the normal scope of their position, location and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
