JOB TITLE: Medical Receptionist
REPORTS TO: Health Center Manager
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt
LOCATION: Birmingham Health Center
SALARY: $18/hr
The Medical Receptionist is a full-time member of the healthcare team and assists clinicians and staff in providing the highest level of care and service to patients. The Medical Receptionist performs a wide array of duties in supporting patient services and clinical care in the health center, including front office, intake, patient support, and other services. This role provides clinical, educational, and administrative services under the direction of the Health Center Manager and clinician in accordance with PPSE Medical Standards and Guidelines as well as State and Federal Regulations.
Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities include:
- Ensure compliance with front office procedures, including setting up and closing down the reception area, keeping the lobby/patient waiting spaces neat and orderly throughout the day, and closing patient entry points at the end of the day
- Greet and welcome all patients with a smile and excellent service; keep patients apprised of delays or extended wait times
- Complete patient check-in and registration, including advising and assisting patients with form completion
- Complete patient data entry via PPSE’s Electronic Health Record and prepare charts with appropriate information
- Enter relevant and appropriate information into tracking tools to improve service delivery and patient experience
- Complete patient charges and payments process, including processing payments and generating receipts
- Run daily cashier reports, count the cash drawer contents, balance day sheets, and prepare bank deposits
- Check out patients in a professional and pleasant manner
- Maintain clean and neat clinical workspaces
- Allow the patient to explore feelings and ask questions regarding findings and decisions while demonstrating empathy and being non-judgmental
- Assist with patient intake and ensure the clinician has relevant and necessary information to move forward with a visit
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Preferred - 2 years of experience in healthcare, preferably in sexual and reproductive health
- Preferred - Electronic Health Record experience
- Preferred - abortion and family planning experience
- Preferred - Certified Medical Assistant or Surgical Tech
Skills
- Ability to handle stress in a calm and professional manner, gracefully manage multiple projects, able to meet multiple deadlines, and comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Attention to detail and follow-through on assigned work is essential
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong computer skills, including practice management software, MS Office, and internet/email
Physical Demands
Ability to travel as needed to other health centers, PPSE’s administrative offices, and national conferences. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time as needed while working in a clinical and office environment. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
Languages Spoken
English required, Spanish speaking skills preferred

Be forthcoming and truthful in responding to the Alabama Department of Public Health, Georgia Department of Community Health and the Mississippi State Department of Health inquiries and requests for information
