Responsibilities
- Meets store operating policies and standards, including providing quality beverages and food products, cash handling and store safety and security.
- Efficiently and accurately operates the register system, including proper labeling of all Starbucks drink and food items, and reports over/under deposits within department compliance guidelines.
- Reviews the menu, pricing and register screen prior to starting shift.
- Maintains work area throughout shift; keeps the area clean, sanitized, and well stocked with cups, lids, syrups, coffees, and refreshments.
- Prepares food and beverages to standard recipes or customized for customers per the Starbucks Barista Basics training guide, including recipe changes such as temperature or ingredient substitutions.
- Assembles supplies needed for shift and sets up, delivers, serves, and cleans according to established standards.
- Engages with customers per the Starbucks Barista Basics training guide, including discovering and responding to customer needs through clear and pleasant communication.
- Ensures items are stored according to the FDA Food Code.
- Works with delivery vendor (Estes) to unload, inspect and properly store Starbucks items in appropriate freezers/refrigeration.
- Inspects items during receiving, rejects unacceptable products, and documents for credit.
- Follows training and safety procedures when operating equipment; equipment is cleaned and properly stored.
- Inventories assigned areas and follows Starbucks Par Builder Par Sheets.
- Available to perform different shift locations throughout the store (Support, Cold Bar, Espresso Bar, Register, Beverage Sequencing & Customer Support).
- Attends Starbucks seasonal promotional period trainings as appropriate (Spring, Summer 1, Summer 2, Fall, Winter).
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Food Service Worker Permit (FSWP) from Monongalia County Health Department (MCHD) prior to starting OR obtain MCHD Temporary FSWP no later than the first Wednesday of employment. Until a Temporary FSWP is obtained: may not handle exposed food or any food contact surface, equipment, or utensil. May be trained on tray delivery and complete general department orientation. Must obtain a valid MCHD FSWP within 1 month of start date (next available class) and maintain throughout employment.
- Starbucks Barista Basics certification within 90 days of hire.
Experience
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Prefer prior barista and/or food service experience in a high-volume setting.
Physical Requirements
- Requires bending, lifting, and carrying of food and supply items and equipment up to 50 lbs. (Ability to push or pull 500 lbs.)
- Ability to stand throughout the working day.
Working Environment
- Ability to effectively work in a noisy setting and under deadline pressures.
- Work area may be hot, cold, and/or wet.
