Overview
Seeking applicants for the position of Dental Assistant. Provide ambulatory health care as a member of the dental team in an outpatient clinic. The candidate must be currently certified to practice as a dental assistant in a State or Territory of the United States or District of Columbia, certified as a radiographer in their field certification, and must have or obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
Responsibilities
- Perform chair side assistant duties in all phases of restorative, prosthodontic, surgical, endodontic and periodontal treatment as provided in general dentistry.
- Clinic maintenance and record keeping responsibilities.
- Clean, polish and oil equipment; clean and sharpen instruments; sterilize instruments using autoclave and dry clave techniques.
- Prepare sterile trays, packs, sutures, etc.
- Maintain a number of recurring reports concerning patients, materials, and equipment.
- Store and maintain adequate supplies at the dental station.
- Schedule and route patients for services as required.
- Requisition work from the dental laboratory.
- Receive and prepare patients for treatment such as routine restoration.
- Lay out instruments and materials for treatment; pass and retrieve instruments and materials to the dentist; operate oral evacuator and suction to keep the operation area clear.
- Relay post-treatment instructions from the dentist to patients.
- Knowledge of instruments, materials and standardized dental procedures used for oral examinations and routine restorations to support chair side assistance.
- Knowledge of use, care, and storage of dental equipment; knowledge of sterilization techniques.
Qualifications
- Current certification to practice as a dental assistant in a U.S. State, Territory, or District of Columbia.
- Certified as a radiographer in their field certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (must have or obtain and maintain).
- Ability to perform chair side assistance and maintain sterile technique; familiarity with dental instruments, materials, and procedures used in routine examinations and restorations.
