Job Description
Mechanical:
- As requested and as the result of inspection tours, checks machines and equipment to see if they are operating efficiently
- When machines or equipment are not functioning properly, diagnoses the cause by observation, sound or other methods based on mechanical knowledge and determines what repairs or adjustments are needed
- Adjusts or changes settings of semi-complex and complex machines or assemblies involving simple or intricate adjustments
- As needed, repairs machines by replacing such parts as gears, discs, cams, belts, chains, studs, guides, shafts, bushings, etc.
- Makes test run and final adjustments
- Partially or completely dismantles equipment to make repairs and/or adjustments and reassembles equipment
Pipefitting:
- Lies out and installs piping with valves, tees, nipples, drains, etc.
- Measures, cuts and threads pipe as needed
- Measures, cuts, bends and sweat couples copper tubing
- Connects pneumatic control instruments and adjusts control valves
- Packs valves, replaces gaskets, floats, washers, etc.
- Diagnoses cause of trouble and make necessary repairs, adjustments, or replacements to pipelines, valves, sprinkler heads, toilets, fountains, fluid or gas lines, etc.
- Estimates other than stock items needed and orders same through supervisors.
Lubricating:
- Lubricates the moving parts and wearing surfaces of all assigned machines, mechanical equipment, motors, etc., and regulates the quantity to be used. Removes excess grease and foreign matter
- Uses specified lubricants
- Follows scheduled and deviates from same when necessary
- Notes any obvious equipment defects and notifies supervisor of same
Utility Maintenance:
- Lies out and performs general masonry work, such as, building forms and the mixing and pouring of concrete for pedestals, footings, etc.
- Digs trenches and lay tile pipe, etc.
- Perform miscellaneous grounds maintenance work
- Makes minor floor and roof repairs
Carpentry:
- Makes and/or repairs benches, platforms, closets, partitions, shelves, bins, racks, etc.
- Adjusts doors, and replaces locks and hinges
Welding:
- Regulates the flow of gas to control flame or current for proper temperature.
- Performs routine welding duties involving broken or cracked parts or in the erecting and welding of small stands, etc.
Skills:
- Know how to check, adjust, clean, and lubricate assigned equipment
- Know how to tend and operate boilers and make water tests
- Know how to diagnose cause of trouble in all equipment, dismantle and repair same
- Knowledge of plant layout
- Know how to make plumbing and pipefitting repairs and modification
Physical and Working Conditions Required:
- Will be required to stand, walk, bend, climb, lift, and carry
- Will be required to work indoors and outdoors
- Must have good sight, touch, and hearing
- Must have good manual dexterity
- Must know how to operate hand and power tools common to the trade
- Must be able to work under natural and artificial light
Education:
- High School Graduate
