Overview

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

The purpose of this assignment is to provide the full range of comprehensive professional social work services to Veterans and their families at the Palo Alto VA Health Care System, Palo Alto Division. The area to which the incumbent is assigned to provide and/or arrange for the delivery of social services is the Clinical Command Center, which assists with coordinating patient flow through acute inpatient medical/surgical units from admission to discharge by expediting and assisting in discharges. The incumbent may also assist in providing social services to the emergency department and a few specialty outpatient clinics, e.g., dialysis and oncology. The incumbent evaluates and provides complex, multiple services to individuals and families with a variety of social, emotional, and health-related problems. Services are timely, comprehensive, and effectively coordinated with services provided by other health care professionals. The incumbent participates in process improvement projects and data collection and analysis to improve patient flow through the hospital system.
