Research Data Scientist III
The Research Data Scientist III investigates, designs, and implements data-driven methods for improving the accuracy and efficiency of clinical labs. Working closely with senior staff members and leadership, this position supports design and implementation of tools and methods from a variety of research and clinical testing methods with the goal to advance the state-of-the-art in clinical diagnosis, treatment, data analysis, and reporting. In addition, Research Data Scientists collaborate with medical directors and scientists to execute research projects that result in publications and conference presentations. Individuals are expected to evaluate multiple approaches in a data-driven manner to determine which are most likely to deliver accurate results and should be able to communicate results to non-technical staff and faculty in a clear, compelling manner. Research Data Scientists III stay abreast of relevant literature by reading journal articles, whitepapers and related material. Creates, refines and validates software, data analysis processes, statistical, and data visualization tools. Implements and maintains computational tools for data mining and data integration. Develops enhanced data collection procedures to include information relevant for building analytic systems Develops new tools to aid in the analysis of assay quality metrics, interpretation, and reporting. Develops novel methods/algorithms, and extends, adapts and improves existing methods as needed. Develops analysis approaches in support of clinical applications. Works effectively with other scientists, programmers, engineers, and researchers to implement novel or adapt existing approaches to data analysis and reporting. Supports transition of developed software and analysis into clinical practice. Provides consultative support to clinical and research staff, pathology residents, Medical Directors and others as assigned. Communicate results to non-technical staff and faculty in a clear, compelling manner. Mentors junior staff members Suggests and evaluates improvements to existing architectures Other duties as assigned Ability to communicate effectively in English Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. Communicate: Frequently and effectively communicate with others. PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company policies. ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Qualifications
Education
Required : Master's Degree or better. Preferred : PhD or better. Experience
Required : Masters' Degree in a quantitative science or relevant technical field or equivalent experience Advanced understanding of multiple machine learning approaches (supervised and unsupervised, classification techniques, text and image analysis) Proficiency working in linux / unix data analysis environments Comfort working in large, complex codebases Proficiency with modern cloud computing and HPC environments for machine learning Ability to summarize complex, large data sets into clear, interpretable results Ability to write clear, well-reasoned text descriptions of methods, suitable for publication Six years' experience developing machine learning tools with one or more machine learning frameworks (Scikit-learn, PyTorch, JAX, Tensorflow, etc). Ability to collaborate in a cross-functional environment Six years' experience working with one of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C#, Javascript, R or similar Proficiency working in Linux / Unix command-line environment Preferred: PhD in a quantitative science or relevant technical field Demonstrated experience with statistics Seven (7) years' experience working with one of the following programming languages: Python, Java, C#, Javascript, R Seven (7) years' experience with a machine learning framework such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Keras, JAX or similar Expertise working in Linux / Unix environment
