Network Engineer Sme
Introduction: The Network Engineer Sme is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and optimization of complex network systems. This role involves gathering stakeholder requirements, producing technical documentation, and providing expert-level guidance on network architecture, infrastructure, and operations. The Sme will support both strategic planning and hands-on execution, ensuring secure, scalable, and high-performing network environments. This is a proposal-based position; employment is contingent upon contract award and funding availability. Key Responsibilities: Gather and analyze stakeholder network requirements using various methodologies. Develop and maintain technical documentation including: System Requirements Documents (SRDs), Systems Security Requirements Documents (SSRDs), Scope of Work (SOW), System Test Plans (STPs). Design, install, maintain, and evaluate network and communications systems. Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues involving protocols, topologies, and hardware. Support network architecture design, feasibility assessments, and cost studies. Apply deep knowledge of internetworking, routers, switches, firewalls, and peripherals to enhance and evolve network designs. Lead efforts to improve deployment and maintenance processes for network infrastructure. Support Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning and execution. Oversee the design, deployment, testing, certification, patching, and interoperability of network components including: switches, firewalls, load balancers, Software Defined Networking (SDN), private cloud infrastructure. Sme-Specific Duties: Serve as a technical advisor for verifying IT and network design in building construction documentation. Interpret and apply industry standards to complex IT documents such as: network diagrams (block connect, wireline, elevation), configuration management diagrams, blueprints and construction narratives, Building Program of Requirements (PORs), contracts, agreements, work letters, project charters, and proposals. Provide expert input on Cisco and Juniper-based network infrastructure, including SDN environments. Collaborate across teams and communicate effectively with stakeholders and executives. Deliver technical demonstrations and presentations to leadership and decision-makers. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Network Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution. Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT and networking, including Federal Government environments. Demonstrated experience with: Cisco and Juniper network infrastructure, Software Defined Networking (SDN), reading and interpreting complex IT and construction documentation, network design and validation. Strong understanding of industry standards and best practices in network engineering. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams. Excellent communication skills, including experience with executive-level presentations. Must possess an active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility. Candidates will be required to undergo a polygraph examination post-hire. Preferred Skills: Industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, JNCIP, CISSP, PMP). Experience with private cloud and hybrid network environments. Familiarity with network automation and orchestration tools.
