The team consists of licensed and unlicensed caregivers who ensure that patients and families receive individualized high-quality, safe patient care. They practice in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders. This practice is supported through a shared governance model. The framework for practice is guided by a professional practice model and evidence-based practice. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the organization's values. All RN Clinical Nurses are expected to be licensed and knowledgeable. They must uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the state's Professional Nurse Practice Act. They implement the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards set forth by the American Nurses Association. As members of the patient services team, individuals uphold the voice of the patient and system policies. They support service excellence goals. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Exemplary Practice and Outcomes The RN Clinical Nurse performs the Nursing Process, including assessment, diagnosis, identification of outcomes, planning, implementation, and evaluation. They use evidence-based practice and analytical thinking to ensure that care is individualized. They coordinate care through effective partnerships, recognizing that caring is central to optimal patient outcomes. They provide relationship-based patient-centered care consistent with population-specific characteristics. The RN always partners with patients and their significant others, using appropriate methods for communication. They keep patients and significant others updated, making patient goals the focus of care planning. The RN practices using current clinical practice standards. Teamwork and Collaboration The RN coordinates delivery and documentation of safe, quality patient care that promotes the professional care delivery model. This includes diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods and timely documentation. The RN demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner, promoting recruitment and retention of team members. They participate and support performance improvement that includes all stakeholders, research, and promoting safe, quality patient care. The RN may initiate or lead performance improvement activities and actively supports shared governance. Professional Development and Initiative The RN completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments and mandatory education. They serve as a preceptor and/or mentor for other professional nurses and staff to create a qualified workforce. Evidence-Based Practice and Research The RN promotes evidence-based practice, nursing research, and performance improvement in nursing. They participate in value analysis to evaluate patient care products. They uphold organizational policies and competencies ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements. The RN participates in data collection and poses relevant clinical questions to support evidence-based practice. They consult appropriate experts and utilize resources to address practice questions. Resources and Support The RN proactively plans for patient care across the continuum during direct patient care. They participate in developing protocols and procedures in collaboration with care managers. The RN supports the efficient use of human and material resources to achieve best practice outcomes. Required Minimum Education Diploma from an accredited nursing program and a Bachelor's Degree in nursing from an accredited school. Required Minimum Experience Experience with direct patient care is preferred. Required Minimum Skills Ability to read, write, and speak English. Strong interpersonal and customer service skills are essential. The RN must be able to function in a fast-paced environment and respond to emergencies effectively. Excellent time management skills are required. The RN practices nursing using evidence and analytical skills while possessing strong critical thinking abilities.
