Job Description The Quality Technician - Automotive is responsible for ensuring that manufactured automotive parts, components, or finished vehicles meet established quality standards and specifications. This role involves performing inspections, tests, and audits, as well as documenting findings and assisting in problem-solving to drive continuous improvement within the automotive manufacturing process. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of automotive quality systems (e.g., IATF 16949), excellent attention to detail, and the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.

Responsibilities:

Inspection and Testing:

Performing incoming, in-process, and final inspections of automotive parts, components, and/or finished vehicles according to established procedures and standards. Utilizing various measuring instruments and testing equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges, CMM, functional test stands) to verify dimensional accuracy, functional performance, and appearance. Conducting visual inspections for defects such as scratches, dents, misalignments, and incorrect assembly. Performing functional tests to ensure parts or vehicles operate as intended. Documenting all inspection and test results accurately and thoroughly.

Quality System Compliance:

Understanding and adhering to the requirements of automotive quality management systems such as IATF 16949. Participating in internal audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and procedures. Assisting in the development and maintenance of quality documentation, including work instructions, inspection plans, and control plans.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

Collecting and analyzing quality data to identify trends and potential issues. Preparing quality reports and summaries for supervisors and engineers. Utilizing statistical process control (SPC) charts and other quality tools to monitor process stability.

Problem Solving and Corrective Action:

Identifying and documenting non-conforming materials or products. Participating in root cause analysis investigations. Assisting in the development and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Following up on corrective actions to ensure effectiveness.

Calibration and Maintenance:

Ensuring that measuring and testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. Coordinating equipment calibration schedules. Performing basic maintenance on inspection equipment.

Blueprint and Specification Interpretation:

Accurately interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications. Understanding GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles.

Continuous Improvement:

Identifying opportunities for process improvement to enhance product quality and efficiency. Participating in continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a technical field (e.g., Quality Technology, Manufacturing Technology) preferred. 5 years of experience as a Quality Technician in the automotive industry. Strong understanding of automotive quality standards (e.g., IATF 16949, PPAP, APQP, FMEA, MSA, SPC). Proficient in using various measuring instruments and testing equipment. Ability to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and GD&T. Experience with data collection and analysis, including SPC. Knowledge of problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5 Why). Familiarity with internal auditing processes. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with quality management software is a plus. Physical Demands:

Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods. Frequent use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Ability to lift and/or move objects up to 30 lbs occasionally. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to work in a manufacturing environment with varying temperatures and noise levels. Work Environment:

Primarily a manufacturing environment with potential exposure to noise, dust, and temperature variations. May involve working around moving machinery. Requires adherence to safety regulations and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
