Overview

Substation Superintendent (Relay) - Solar EPC role at Primoris Services Corporation. The Substation Superintendent (Relay) provides input and technical expertise for utility-scale solar and BESS construction projects. Supports engineering review, procurement (if necessary), construction, and start-up of high or medium voltage electrical systems and associated substations. Provides technical owner correspondence support. On-site supervision of Field Engineers and General Foremen to ensure a safe, productive, and quality job with controlled costs in the construction discipline for the project site. Schedules subcontractors within the work discipline to effectively utilize all resources and works with specifications and contract requirements. Primary responsibilities

Track schedules for equipment, materials, testing for subcontractors to effectively utilize resources, maximize production, and minimize costs after becoming familiar with the scope of work and site. Train and implement standardized Work Plans and Work Assists Field Operations Manager in process improvement efforts. Act as an electrical consultant to supervisory and field personnel in electrical circuits, power quality, switchgear installations, transmission lines, interconnect systems, and high voltage collection/distribution systems. Participate in meetings with Electrical Engineers, Electrical subcontractors, Owner SMEs, and Utility interconnect personnel. Supervise all project Electrical subcontractors to ensure effective use of project resources and industry processes. Ensure safe working conditions and safety procedures on the project; enforce company, job site-specific, federal, and state safety regulations; manage training for work methods, crane and lifting operations, DOT requirements, site conditions, telehandlers, JHAs, accident/injury management, electrical safety hazards, LOTO, arc flash (as applicable). Communicate with Site Manager to update problem areas and project status. Collaborate with Site Manager, other Trade Superintendents, General Superintendents, and other supervision to plan and staff trade employees in accordance with company resources, processes, and policies. Assist Site Manager in communicating and negotiating with the owner regarding major project decisions. Maintain a professional demeanor and foster a collaborative environment with craft, subcontractors, vendors, and the Owner to continually improve delivery performance. Monitor actual costs against the job estimate for specific disciplines and inform the Site Manager of cost overruns and resource utilization. Verify that construction activities and project engineering conform to the Project Quality Plan; assist in communicating project specifications and craftsmanship expectations to all workers, vendors, subcontractors, and other agents. Assist in assembling close-out information for various meetings. Mentor Field Coordinators/Field Engineers and General Foremen on discipline, production costs, scope, quality, and safety. Identify potential change orders and inform the Site Manager. Be familiar with site conditions. May act as project leader in the absence of the Site Manager. Perform additional assignments as directed. Participate in RFI development and ensure technical accuracy. Support economic conditions by hiring locally, attending job fairs, and participating in public information meetings. Establish and maintain crew and equipment matrices, compare information to Work Plans, and update Operations Analysis as needed. May visit proposed project sites to support estimating and business development. Become a project liaison with key community leaders and local landowners. Assist with energization of substations and switching to PV plant during commissioning; coordinate with owner and utilities. Oversee relay testing, control house design/construction, SCADA system install, and fiber installation. Coordinate with subcontractors/manufacturers for any equipment issues. Qualifications

Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR). Must have knowledge and experience programming, testing, and commissioning SEL substation relays. Ability to supervise many employees. Thorough knowledge of tools and equipment uses and limitations. Good communication skills to deal with owners and employees. Solid understanding of job costing. Relocation to the project site community is required. May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of a company contract licensing, or journeyman or master electrician license. Ability to read and understand prints and contract documents. Knowledge of applicable federal and state codes for the project. Benefits

Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots). Must pass a physical exam if required. Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, and stairways; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work at heights or in confined spaces (e.g., towers, vessels, excavations). Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (use assistance for heavier loads). Stand or walk for extended periods on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel). Must be able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required. Work location
